Last week, Heard Well announced the launch of “Neptones”, the debut compilation album from entertainer Jc Caylen, one half of the YouTube dynamic duo, KianandJc. The album is the latest release from the Billboard-charting record label, which was co-founded by YouTube star and entrepreneur Connor Franta, and is entirely powered by this generation’s tastemakers and their communities.
Since its launch in July, Heard Well has seen immense success in the music industry. The label’s debut album, Common Culture, Vol. 3 from Franta’s Common Culture Music series, rose to the Billboard Top 10 on the Compilation Album Charts, as well as the iTunes Top 10 Pop Albums. Similarly, its second release, “Landscapes”, from social media star Anthony Quintal (aka Lohanthony) debuted at #3 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Album Charts. The label recently teamed up with beauty and fashion teen queen Amanda Steele (aka MakeupbyMandy24) for her album “GATEWAY”, which expanded its music roster to incorporate emerging R&B and hip hop artists. (Stay tuned for the All Access interview with her next year)
“It has been amazing to see how much Heard Well has grown in the short time since launch,” said Connor Franta. “We’ve been able to offer musicians a new means of discovery through some of the biggest influencers in social media, and I’m excited to be able to partner with my long-time friend Jc for this next release.”
“Neptones” features an array of electronic music, showcasing 12 of Jc’s favorite up-and-coming artists.
“Neptones is a collection of my favorite tunes to vibe to, and I think the artists presented in this collection deserve way more attention,” said Jc Caylen. “Whether I’m blasting them through my speakers while I go for a night drive finding inspiration for my videos or let them play as background music while I’m doing work at home, I’m always in the mood to groove to the euphoric vibes this compilation gives off. So sit back, close your eyes, and let the music send your mind to another planet.”
The collection currently holds the #1 slot on iTunes Electronic Album charts in the US as well as #2 in Canada, #2 in Mexico, #3 in Spain, #7 in Australia, #9 in the UK, #23 in France. Also, 10 of the 12 tracks are in the iTunes top 200!
Jc Caylen is an outgoing, full-of-life Internet celebrity known for filming vlog style videos and challenges for his 8.2 million social media fans. When he’s not filming crazy stunts or laugh-out-loud challenges for the KianAndJc channel with his partner in crime, Kian Lawley, he can be found traveling the world in search of the next big adventure or cuddling up with his dog, Wishbone.

Thanks for your time! How’s the end of the year looking like for you?
Oh it’s lookin so gooood. I have so many things I’ve been & still am workin on for the new year. So I say, 2016 is gonna be a good year for me & my supporters. 🙂
How did you and Kian first meet and get started making videos? Do you remember your very first one?
We actually “met” on the Internet as funny as that sounds, I suppose that’s the new generation. We shared a common interest in video making, then met him & all of the other boys at Vidcon 2012, in Anaheim, California and from there on we started making videos left and right.
My very first video was a vlog with my intoxicated grandma on New Years! (Laughter) There wasn’t very much to the video except her telling me how much she loves me with a wine glass in her hand and a bunch of firework shots. It was uploaded Jan 1st, 2010. Unfortunately, I don’t have that video anymore…
How do you and Kian come up with the ideas for your YouTube videos?
We honestly just sit around & ask each other, “what could be fun for us & our viewers?” and go from there… I think with our mindset & jackass-y type inspiration we come up w some crazy stunts we like to pull with challenges connected with them.
How did you get involved with Heard Well?
My good friend Connor Franta, who was also in Our2ndLife, and I share the same manager, Andrew Graham. They’re partners in the label and reached out to me before it even launched. I immediately saw this as an opportunity to answer one of my fans’ biggest questions: what music are you listening to. I’m able to share the music I love and help spotlight the music I care about & upcoming artists who deserve more listens !
Can you talk about the album you are going to release through Heard Well? What is “Neptones” all about?
So much of my job is creating quickly and often and that can be tough to do day-in and day-out without inspiration. Music is often my muse and sometimes my best work is inspired by other peoples’ creativity. “Neptones” is a super-dose of just that, musical creativity. Give it a listen your mind will be at ease & flow. Maybe a little head bump in there once or twice.
How did you go about selecting the songs that would be on “Neptones”? Was that hard to pick and choose?
Super hard to pick. There were many songs that didn’t make the cut unfortunately but I believe the hand selected ones I picked for Neptones is what’s make Neptones, Neptones. I’m happy with what I’m stuck with 🙂
Do you hope to curate more of these kinds of albums?
Most definitely! If the kids love it, which from what I’ve seen from the release, then there’s no doubt in my mind I want to make more. Maybe another one with a different vibe? I have all different kinds of music tastes!
Who are some of your all-time favorite artists?
Some of my all-time favorite artists include Kid Cudi, Hoodie Allen & SuperDuperKyle. Also Jai Wolf, who is featured on “Neptones”!
When you and Kian aren’t making videos, what do you like to do for fun?
Honestly, whatever we really want. Apart from working on business meetings, merch, movies, shows, etc. we like to do regular boy stuff. Hang out w friends, go to the beach, do something SPONTANEOUS! (Laughter)
What do you hope people take away from your album “Neptones” and the videos that you post on YouTube?
I want people to be inspired by what I put out into the world, & that goes for everything I create. I have so many more things to come. 🙂
Would you like to share anything else about yourself with our readers?
Hot wings are my favorite food & they sound so good right now.. I’m hungry.
