The fantastic trailer to the Will Smith and Jay-Z produced version of Annie premiered last week, and we were super excited to see how the two hip-hop rooted mega stars would interpret the classic character’s “hard knock life”. Unfortunately, not everyone was as excited as we were. Soon after the trailer hit the web via You Tube last Wednesday, many took to Twitter to express their disapproval of young Quvenzhané Wallis being cast in the remake because she was black. If you dare to risk being frustrated, saddened, and possibly enraged, you can click here to see some of the collected tweets that were used as an example of the issue.
Our opinion was actually the complete opposite. In fact, we thought that Jay-Z’s involvement could bring a unique creative flair to the project because of how he successfully sampled and reinvented “Hard Knock Life” from the original film for his Vol 2…Hard Knock Life album in 1998.
