Rockwell Table & Stage have expanded their hit “Unauthorized Musical Parody of..” (UMPO) Series with the 1999 classic film “10 Things I Hate About You.” This unique event kicked off on March 22nd and will continue until May 12th.
This hilarious and slightly-dramatic musical theatre film parody runs every Friday and Saturday night at 8pm and Sundays at noon.
These performances feature L.A. based actors and singers from TV, film, and Broadway. It was directed by Nathan Moore and written and executive produced by Kate Pazakis.
Says Pazakis, “Our UMPO Series continues to expand, taking on everything from film to television shows, beloved classics to today’s hits. Rockwell audiences always highly anticipate what we will tackle next, but what they are guaranteed every time are countless laughs, exceptional talent, and full entertainment all around. UMPO: 10 Things I Hate About You is the perfect production for newbies to pop their UMPO Series cherry!”
Not only are these talented actors portraying the iconic roles from the film, they are also belting out some of the biggest and best 90’s hits. They creatively weaved these classic songs into the plot line in their inventive twist on 10 Things I Hate About You. Avril Lavigne’s “I’m With You,” Ricky Martin’s “Livin La Vida Loca,” Britney Spears’ “Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman,” No Doubt’s “Don’t Speak,” Smash Mouth’s “All Star” and many others were heard throughout the night. They kept the audience swaying in their seats and even singing along at certain moments.
10 Things I Hate About You is a coming of age teen romantic comedy, modernizing William Shakespeare’s late-16th century classic The Taming of the Shrew, retold in an American high school setting. In the story, new student Cameron (Gordon-Levitt) is smitten with Bianca Stratford (Oleynik) and, in order to get around her father’s strict rules on dating, attempts to get bad boy Patrick (Ledger) to date Bianca’s ill-tempered sister, Kat Stratford (Stiles). The film is titled after a poem written by Kat about her bittersweet romance with Patrick. Much of the filming took place in the Seattle Metropolitan area, with many scenes shot at Stadium High School in Tacoma.
