The Fooo Conspiracy is a group of 4 Swedish lads.
They danced before they could walk, and sang before they could speak. They were enrolled to prestigious dance institutions throughout the country, where their talent was nurtured and developed in virtually all the biggest dance styles there is. But it was street dance that became the guys’ favorite style.
With award-winning innovation, these four boys have made it their thing to take on the streets in a guerilla style fashion, performing on the streets and town squares in Stockholm. The internet sensation that is The Fooo released their debut EP last summer. They are currently taking the internet by storm with their viral YouTube videos and social media following.
Learn all about The Fooo Conspiracy in this interview:
Please list all of your band members and their roles in the band?
We all have equal roles in the band – we all sing, dance, and do parkour!
Felix Sandman
Oscar “OG” Molander
Omar Rudberg
Oscar Enestad
The Fooo Conspiracy’s “Build A Girl” Video:
How did the band come together? Can you remember the moment that you all decided to start this group?
Artist House Stockholm was holding auditions to start a band, and they sent out invitations to different schools around the area. So the owner of our music school told Felix, Oscar, and OG that they should audition, so they did and won! As for me, Omar, I was recommended by a producer because of the work I’ve done on TV shows like Sweden’s Got Talent and other singing competitions. I showed up to rehearsals the first day, and we just clicked and got to work!
How did you come up with the band name?
It started as a joke from the beginning because we couldn’t decide on name. Based on the initials from all of our first names, it was 3 O’s and an F, and then it morphed into The Fooo. Since our fans have been such a huge part of all we do in Sweden, we wanted to incorporate them into our band name. The Swedish media had been saying that there was a ‘conspiracy theory’ with our fans and how passionate they are, so we decided to change it one last time to The Fooo Conspiracy!
What sets you apart from other bands?
We draw a lot of inspiration from street culture, which is reflected in our style, dance, parkour, and sound, which is edgy-pop.
What’s the best part about being in your band?
We get to do what we love with the people we love. Then we get to share it with our fans, and hopefully, inspire other people!
What is your song “Kangaroos” really about?
It’s about the shoe brand called Kangaroos. We all love their shoes and have been dancing in them since we started!
You guys are all really talented dancers. Where did you all learn to dance? Do any of your play any instruments?
Felix, OG, and Oscar went to an arts school together that covered music and all styles of dance. So they’ve been dancing since they were 4 years old! As for me (Omar), I started dancing when joined the band, but I like to think that I’ve always had rhythm – I’m Venezuelan! We all can play instruments, but we’re more focused on dancing. Felix and Oscar can play guitar, and OG and I play piano.
I have read that you guys got your start when you put up videos on YouTube of your performances in Stockholm. What were these videos like? Why do you think they really spoke to people and got such a big reaction?
Our videos started with just the four of us, a boombox, and one camera. It was raw with very little production. When we started doing more videos and having more fans come to the street performances, we added more cameras so we could cut to different views and get our fans in the videos! No one in Sweden was doing anything similar, so we were different. Not many artists add all of the elements of music, dance, parkour, and fans together – especially in an open environment with little to no security! It was a little chaotic, but we were able to bond with our fans on the ground level – literally! Not many people add all of the elements together and do it in front of fans with little to no security! We loved having a very open environment, even though it was sometimes chaotic 🙂
Last year, you opened for Justin Bieber’s 2013 Believe Tour on three Swedish dates at the monstrous Ericsson Globe Arena (formerly Stockholm Globe), which holds over 13,000 people! What was that experience like?
That was our first gig! Incredible way to start, right?! We never performed as a group on a stage at that time, so standing in front of that many people was so much to take in. We were nervous, but still focused and excited. You could feel the energy from everywhere. Once we went on stage we didn’t really think, we just did the routine. It was like an out-of-body experience. After we performed, we got off stage and passed out! It was such a rush!
You recently won a Swedish Grammy for “Innovator of the Year,” where they beat out notable, well-established acts like Avicii and The Veronicas. What did that feel like?
It was such an honor to be included in the category, and even crazier that we won! We are so grateful to our fans for believing in us and supporting us in all that we do!
What are your favorite songs of yours to perform?
We have two! “All Over The World” and “Build A Girl”!
How has your time in the US been? What do you think of LA? Is this everyone’s first time here? Is hard being away from all your family and friends back in Sweden?
We LOVE LA! It’s a very creative environment and it’s very inspiring. We love that we can work with new people and create new things together. And…the weather is great, and we love meeting our American Foooers! We’re excited to visit NYC for the first time as a band next month, and we definitely hope to visit more places around the US soon!
It’s always hard being away from our friends and family, but keeping in contact is key! WiFi is VERY important! We’re like a family ourselves, so we’re always there for each other! So even though it’s hard to leave everyone, we love what we do so much.
More times than not, influences tend to bleed through. What bands are currently inspiring the music that you’re making? Who would you love to work with?
We are inspired by so many artists in all types of music. Anything from K-POP band The EXO, to Justin Timberlake, to Michael Jackson. We can’t name everyone, though! We have so much respect for writers and producers and people who are behind the scenes, so we would love to work with Dr. Luke and Max Martin. We would love to collaborate with Jay Z, too!
What would you say the band has already accomplished and what do you have your eyes set on next?
Winning a Swedish Grammy for Innovator of the Year was so special and something we will always remember. We are so excited to bring our music to the US and keep spreading the Fooo Family! We’re always trying to out-do ourselves, so it’s hard to have just one goal.
Thus far, what’s a favorite memory or something funny that’s taken place with the band (in-studio, onstage, or elsewhere)?
We have so many great memories together, but our favorite was our first headlining show. We were the first debut act to sell out the venue in just three days!
Is there anything in particular that you’d like people to take away from listening to your music?
We want to create a bridge between pop music and street culture, which are both huge influences, so why not put them together? We want to inspire our fans to be positive and do what makes them happy, and we want to give them music to dance to!
