Thanks so much for your time! Things seem really busy for you right now. Why do you think this lifestyle fits you right now?
Things have been crazy busy but it’s the only way I would have it. This lifestyle has always been something I’ve been interested in. Getting to travel the world, play music for people all around the world and just relate with them on a deeper level through music is what I live for and always have.
Growing up, did you always want to be a performer? What else did you think of being when you were younger?
I’ve always wanted to be a performer and started playing music when I was 8 years old. There was a split second in time when I thought I might want to join the military, but that was very short lived and I’ve always known in my heart that music was my passion.
I love your hair! Do you think it has helped you create a stage personality? Do you think it ultimately has helped you become an individual artist?
Well thank you for the compliment. Yes, my hair is a big part of my stage personality and a huge part of MADYX. It’s so crazy because when I’m out in public, people tend to compliment me or even just start conversations with me because of my hair. I love it because I get to meet so many people just being I stand out in a crowd. I do have to say the best part about have the crazy hair is the reaction I get from little kids, its my FAV! :]
How was your last show in LA at the Viper? What do you think makes the perfect show? What’s been some of your favorite gigs?
We’ve actually had a couple shows after the show at the Viper room, but all the more recent shows have been amazing. We just recently played at Bardot in Hollywood for the TuneCore Live Event they have every month in LA and headlined Chain Reaction.
Some of my favorite gigs have actually been at some local high schools that we’ve played in SoCal that we will actually be continuing this school year. It’s amazing to just get to hang out with the kids and hang out with them after we play. They have such a good time and it makes for great memories.
Tell me exactly how your music blends the music of P!nk, Katy Perry and Melissa Etheridge?
MADYX is the perfect mix of the edgy rock element that P!nk has, the pop appeal that you get from the amazing KP and the meaningful and deep lyrics that you get from Melissa Etheridge. I’d have to say that my music is unlike anything I’ve heard, in addition to those influences it does have a bit of the dance, 80’s and even urban elements to it. MADYX is definitely “New Wave” or as I like to say… the “Next Wave” for pop music.
What was it like working with the Grammy-nominated producer Brian Howes?
It was of course a little intimidating at first to work with a Grammy nominated writer/producer, but it was an amazing experience and I learned so much from it. Wrote some amazing songs together and its just amazing that whether you are a Grammy nominated writer/producer or an unsigned artist you still have the same level of respect for each other when it comes to working together and doing whats best for the art that you’re creating.
From the shows, recording, photo shoots, etc, what’s been your favorite part about being a musician so far?
Ohhh, that’s a hard one because I mean it whole heartedly when I say I love it all. Playing shows I think would have to be one of my favorites because that’s the one time I really get to connect with the fans and open my world up to them; I go to a whole different world when I’m playing and the fans get to experience it with me. Don’t get me wrong though, the girl in me LOVES the photo shoots and video shoots. Who doesn’t love getting all dolled up and taking pics? (Laughter)
Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are super important for today’s artists to stay connected to their fans. Are they important to you? How do you stay active on them all?
Social media is a HUGE part of my everyday life; it’s the only way to stay connected with your fans while you are in the studio or just in your everyday life. The best part of social media is that fans aren’t just fans, they become your friends and follow you not just see what you are doing musically, but to see what’s going on in your life as well.
What songs on your EP are you the most proud of? Where do you get the inspiration for your music?
Whenever I write a new song, it’s always about what I’m feeling in that moment and what a certain guitar part might make me think of. I’m inspired by everything that’s goes on in my life or in others lives around me. “Worth the Risk” EP holds a very special place in my heart so it’s hard for me to just pick a few songs that I’m most proud of.
Who would your dream duet be?
Hands down, P!nk.
Is there anything else that you would like to share with our readers about yourself or your music?
Just a big thank you to everyone; the new MADYX fans and to all those who has been following me from the beginning of my career in Life Down Here. Without the love and support of friends, family and friends I wouldn’t be able to do what I love to do everyday of my life.
There’s plenty of fun, new and exciting things happening in the MADYX world. Plenty of shows and new music so stay connected!
