On Tuesday, June 10th, the West Los Angeles venue, Sonos Studio was the place to be. British electro-pop singer-songwriter, Charli XCX put on an incredible sold-out show! She had the audience singing and dancing along to every song.
The rising star’s hit song “Boom Clap” is currently sitting at the top of the iTunes charts and is featured in the #1 movie in the country, The Fault In Our Stars. She made her most significant debut as co-writer and starring in the music videos for Iggy Azalea’s hit single, “Fancy” and Icona Pop’s “I Love It”.
Nursing cocktails in hand, the attendees (including myself) buzzed in the small setting anticipating the event: Sonos Studio + Pandora Present “An Evening With Charli XCX.”
When she arrived on stage, she was wearing a leather jacket and dark sunglasses. It didn’t take long however till she shed the jacket in that packed hot room, revealing a gold-sequin mini dress. With a mane of very thick dark curls whipping back and forth, Charli XCX thrashed and shook on stage the way a punk princess might.
Her dynamic set was based around tracks from her debut album True Romance, alongside sneak peeks at its follow-up like the brand new, Ramones-inspired fist-pumper, “London Queen”, and her recent contribution to the film The Fault In Our Star, “Boom Clap”. Backed by a hard rocking all-girl live band, Charli was able to let loose, sing strong and strut her stuff.
Her energy seemed to multiply as the set progressed and she successfully riled up the audience throughout her performance. Her enthusiasm was contagious and none of us were immune to it!
The takeaway: Charli XCX is cute with an attitude, pop with a sneer, punk with a smirk.
