Rising Canadian Pop Singer, Olivia Penalva Shares Story Behind Single, “Judge Away” & Her Solution to Being Judged

After almost a year since her last release, “Ex’s” Olivia Penalva shares the first look at her upcoming EP with the release of the self-empowering “Judge Away.”

Coming off a strong 2021 with the scoring of Western Canadian Music Award (WCMA) nominations for Pop Artist Of The Year & Breakout Artist Of The Year and her single, “Ex’s” gaining Top 20 radio support in Canada and Top 50 on the US Mainstream radio charts, the rising pop artist kicks off her next chapter off music with a strong sense of self-acceptance.

“Judge Away” is a message to those negative voices that don’t serve you – a maturity that the 21-year old Penalva used as inspiration for the song. She tells All Access:

“I wrote judge away because I realized that no matter what you do in life, people are going to judge you. And as much as it hurts and is sometimes unfortunate, I wrote it as a reminder that we get to choose how to deal with that judgment. That instead of letting it tear us down, we can shut it out and love who we are. You can’t let the negative opinions of others outshine the things that make you special.”

Given judgement is inescapable, Penalva shares how she stays sane and manages those sometimes difficult emotions:

“You need to surround yourself with people who will cheer you on during the highs and support and encourage you during the lows. It’s so important for people to know that they don’t have to deal with all these things alone. I’ve learnt that it’s hard to be vulnerable but there are so many people out there who can understand you and validate you through your struggles.”

The new single gets a visual treatment with the lyric video dropping earlier today:

“Judge Away” is only the beginning for the Canadian singer this year and one she – and All Access – are excited for.

“This year is definitely an exciting one because I get to finally share all these songs I’ve been holding on to for the past year. This collection of songs is a small glimpse into my world, and I am really excited to share those parts of myself and connect with people who can relate to them.”
