Cazzette is a Swedish electronic duo, founded in 2011 by musicians Alexander Björklund and Sebastian Furrer. The duo is best known for the songs “Beam Me Up”, from the debut album Eject (2012), and Sleepless (2014) that charted in Sweden and certified gold. They have also performed with Swedish progressive house DJ Avicii at a live show in New York in September 2012 and again with Avicii as the guest act in Manchester on February, 2014.
Early in 2015, the duo’s collaboration with Terri B!, a song entitled, “Blind Heart”, peaked at number one on the US Dance chart. On March 31, 2015, Cazzette announced on Twitter that they have an EP titled Desserts in the works for a August 28, 2015 release which you can pre-order here . They also announced the first single off the EP: “Together“, it was released on May 29, 2015.
All Access Music writer, Nicole DeRosa got to catch up with the duo just before their new release. Read more in their interview below.
Hi there! How are you today? What’s on the agenda today besides our interview?
Good thank you! We just got back from recording a music video and a few shows! Besides that we are currently working on finishing up a few remixes before we go back on the road next week to Ibiza and then Japan.
Where are you guys from and how did CAZZETTE come about?
We are both from Sweden and Cazzette was formed together with our manager Ash after we decided to send him a few of our songs some years ago.
For those that are not familiar with you and your music, how did you get your start? Who or what was the catalyst for you to want to live the life of a musical gypsy?
Both of us have always been into music in general and steered our life towards it since we were around 14. We both started working in FL at that age and have just kept moving since. The beauty with music is that there is so much new and different takes on it all the time which we love to explore and try.
Who would you love to collaborate with next?
We are huge fans of Kanye, Justice and Ratatat to name a few. In general we just like to work with people who have the same look on music as us: Creativity comes first.
Who have been your inspirations growing up that also inspire you today?
We listen to a lot of hip-hop and other non-dance music and it’s kind of hard to just pick a few inspirations as we listen to music in a different way. It could be an amazing J.Dilla snare or some random 80’s pop synth that we pick up.
What did you learn between your previous work, collaborations and playing live, that you felt you wanted to infuse into your upcoming EP Desserts, out August 28th?
We learn new stuff every day when it comes to music. The main thing we learned creating this EP and also for our live shows are that we have to play and create music that we honestly believe in and love.
What was the inspiration for your new single, “Together”?
Creating Together was a lot of fun. Everything came together very naturally and organic. It’s one of those songs where everything just works. One enters like a creative black out-mode and then suddenly there’s a single.
The video for “Together” features viral 19-year old Swedish soccer brothers, The SkillTwins, showing off their incredible talents and techniques. How did they get on your radar and make you want to work with them? (I understand their YouTube has over 909K subscribers and about 58 million views – one of Sweden’s largest YouTube channels and one of the world’s largest sports channels)
Our management pitched the idea to us and we love artsy and not so obvious videos and was instantly on board with the concept. It’s fascinating enough to just watch SkillTwins but to combine it with music and art really did the trick for us.
Who is in your current playlist? What artists or bands are in current rotation for you?
Right now we are listening to a lot of Odeza, Moby, Disclosure, Pryda and a lot of different hip-hop.
What’s on tap next for you guys? What are you most excited about for this year?
We are really happy with our EP and looking forward to bringing it on the road with us and play new music for all our fans. We also have a bunch of new songs/remixes to finish up!
