Pop Duo TRYON Discuss Their Breakout Single, “Somebody To Love Me” And Much More!
TRYON is a pop duo consisting of brothers Stephen and Justin Kirk.
Growing up in Charlotte, North Carolina, both Stephen and Justin Kirk immersed themselves in many musical endeavors. From Gospel choirs and school bands, to backyard parties and music clubs, the Kirks both learned to sing and master multiple instruments. “We’d play and sing for anyone who would listen,” recalls Justin. “To be honest, that’s something we’ve never grown out of.”
Having opened for national acts (Carrie Underwood – Blown Away Tour, Safety Suit, and two-time Juno nominee Kira Isabella), and after gaining a strong live and social media following, TRYON believes their time has come. “It’s been a ton of work and a lot of time – but we’ve got something to say…and we’re ready for the world to hear our music!”
TRYON has teamed with Grammy award-winning songwriter Gary Baker. Baker is responsible for hits from Britney, Backstreet, and N’Sync, along with the classics I SWEAR and I’M ALREADY THERE.
TRYON’S debut single “Somebody To Love Me” is being played now on SiriusXM Hits-1, Radio Disney, and in major retails stores across the country including Apple, Best Buy, Staples, McDonalds, Verizon, and many others.

Can you talk about how you two decided to start Tryon? Why do you think you all work so well together?
Since we were kids growing up in Charlotte, NC we dreamed of making music professionally. When we moved from Charlotte to Nashville we wanted to not only show our hometown some love with the name “TRYON” but also with our music. The main street that runs through Charlotte is called Tryon. Much of who we are musically comes from our life experiences and Charlotte will always be a special part of who we are. We work well together because we’re brothers and best friends. It’s sort of like the feeling in school when you can’t wait for lunch time to hang with your bestie.. That’s what it’s like everyday for us.
Can you think of something silly that you two have argued about or a moment that was easier because you are brothers?
Right now we are locked in a fierce debate between who we think is best basketball player of all time is. I (Justin) know it’s Jordan, no question. Stephen likes to think Lebron has earned the title of “GOAT.” But I’m just not convinced. I will say though, Lebron was born in the same hospital as us so he has that as a leg up.
How do you think growing up in North Carolina has influenced you two as musicians?
We will always be two kids from Charlotte. There is no Tryon without Charlotte. As cliché as it sounds, Charlotte really taught us about life, love, and how to dream big. We grew up in an area that wasn’t, and still isn’t, a music city so studios and great music creators are few and far between. That forced us to learn to play and write for ourselves. By the time we moved to Nashville we had a sound that was unique to us.
Let’s talk about your single, “Somebody To Love Me.” What was the inspiration for it?
Girls 🙂 “Somebody to Love Me” is about the moment when you’ve made up your mind that you need to make your secret crush not so secret anymore. It’s about the innocence and honesty in the moment you tell that “somebody” how you feel.
What would it be like to win the 2016 Macy’s iHeartRadio Rising Star Contest?
Being involved in the Macy’s iHeart Radio Rising Star Contest has been amazing! I think this contest is one of the coolest ways for fans to get introduced to new music. If we win it would truly be a dream come true!
How’s your summer tour been going? What have been some favorite crowds and venues so far?
The summer shows have been amazing so far! Our favorite part of music is performing live. There is magic in the moments when we get to see our music connect with the fans live. It’s the best feeling in the world!!!
Who are some of your favorite artists? What artists continue to inspire you two? Who would you love to work with in the future?
We are huge Michael Jackson fans and other legends like Stevie Wonder. Right now we are really loving Drake, the Weeknd, Ariana Grande, Tori Kelly, and last, but definitely not least TAYLOR SWIFT! To work with any of those artists would be incredible..
At the end of the day, what do you hope is the message of your music? What do you hope listeners take away from your songs?
Our goal is always to have a positive message in our music and love is that message for us. We are trying to spread as much love as we can. Also, don’t be scared to dream big! Anything is possible with hard work and a lot of faith!
