Thanks for your time! Now that we are entering the fall of 2016, what are some words you would use to
describe this year? What have been some of the highlights for the band?
“Trying”. We’re working our asses off to build this band back up again. We’ve had old fans and new found interest that have definitely lit the fire under us to see how far we can take it.
Growing up, did you all always want to be musicians? Can you recall your earliest musical memories?
I remember being 8 years old listening to “Frampton Comes Alive” and it just flipped a switch. I really didn’t have a choice at that point. Sounds cliché, but fuck it. It’s the truth!
You just released your latest album, “The Memories Uninvited.” Can you talk about making this collection and you approached it differently than your previous albums?
I self funded it. Didn’t have a label, didn’t want a label. Made sure I was the final say creatively and brought in some young guns to help rejuvenate the sound. Cody Landers & Chris Johnson on guitar, Blake Heimbach on bass, Grant Brookes on drums, Leo Goff on synths and Alex Prieto to engineer. We also had some programming help from Jon Gerring from The Devil Wears Prada.
How have you grown as a band? What about the band dynamics – how much have they changed since you first formed?
I have been the driving force behind One Less Reason since its inception. I love all the guys who have played with me, but this line up we have now I can honestly say is what I’ve wanted. We play and move as a unit and its seamless. We’ll see how long that lasts! (Laughter)
One Less Reason is about to go on tour with Sick Puppies. Where are you looking forward to playing at – any particular city or venue?
Biloxi and Dallas have always been great to us, but I’m definitely curious to see what the new cities will bring.
Who are some of your favorite artists and what bands continue to inspire you and your music? Who would you still love to work with in the future?
I’m really picky, but I’m really digging the new Let Live record; Marianas Trench is always impressive. Josh Ramsay is a great songwriter and arranger. Brand New has always been a staple for me. I can go on and on.
When you aren’t performing or working in the studio, what do you like to do for fun? How do you unwind from it all?
My girls come number 1. It doesn’t get better than just hanging out with them and being daddy.
At the end of the day, what do you hope is the message of your music? What do you hope listeners take away from your songs?
Sincerity. That’s it. I’m not shooting for a hashtag anthem or a one listen song.
Is there anything else that you would like to share with our readers about yourself or your music – something unique that you haven’t shared in another interview?
I can moonwalk. I mean seriously moonwalk. ;o)
