MTV Woodie Festival and Awards at SXSW All Access Exclusive Coverage

MTVu took over Austin’s South by Southwest Festival to celebrate the best of college radio and emerging artists.
The festivities on March 20th were ignited by performances at the Woodie Festival. MisterWives, Action Bronson, Hoodie Allen, Rae Sremmurd, Ty Dolla $ign, Raury, Clean Bandit with Jess Glynne, Marina & the Diamonds, and Robert DeLong took the stage throughout the day.
When the Woodie Awards started at 9pm, the rain and the revelers were ready. Jack Antonoff began the show with a medley about this year’s nominees as well as some tunes from his own band, Bleachers. James Bay and Years & Years performed during the show. Rockers Fall Out Boy played a medley of their hits before being inducted to the Hall of Wood, the award’s first. Rapper Big Sean played the show’s on-air finale then treated attendees to several more songs after the show completed. MTV’s, Nessa, co-hosted while Tove Lo and Zoe Kravitz provided support via video.
WPTS of the University of Pittsburgh won the year’s College Radio Woodie Award. Childish Gambino, nee Donald Glover, won the award for Next Level Performance, as well as the Best Video Woodie for his song “Sober.” Porter Robinson won the Woodie of the Year, while the trio Years & Years won the Artist to Watch Woodie. Crooner Vance Joy won the Cover Woodie for his rendition of Taylor Swift’s “Riptide.” Rapper Hoodie Allen won the Co-Sign Woodie for his collaboration with Ed Sheeran on the song “All About It,” while Jack and Jack won the Social Climber Woodie Award.
