Christina, Katherine, Lisa, Amy, Lauren and Dani Cimorelli make up the pop group, Cimorelli. Yes, that’s six sisters all in the same group! They perform the pop hits of the day in an a cappella style, their voices blending in perfect unison. Not only do these girls know harmony, they are each musicians who write their own songs, talents that impressed executives at Universal Records, which signed Cimorelli in April 2010.
Learn more about Cimorelli in the following interview:
Hey girls! Thanks so much for taking the time to answer a few questions for me! Where does this interview find you all today?
We are in Northern California!! We’re promoting Renegade! And visiting family!
Can you remember the moment when you decided to start this group? Growing up, were you always singing together for your family?
Christina decided to start when she was 15. It took her a long time to convince us to join. Growing up we were always singing together! In church choir and in theater and just around the house!
I read that your entire family (including 11 children) picked up and moved to LA so Cimorelli could be born! What was that like?
It was so shocking! LA is soooo different than Northern California! It was a big adjustment!
Can you offer a brief summary of Cimorelli’s history so far?
We started in 2007! We performed around NorCal and tried to build a fan base! In 2009 we put up a cover of Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA” on YouTube! It took off and we got a manager and got signed! Then we moved to LA! From there we’ve been finding ourselves as artists and releasing music! We’ve been writing and recording and really growing! We are so proud of our new EPs, “Renegade” and “Christmas Magic”!
Before you started putting out original material, you were posting covers to YouTube. What are some covers that you are particularly proud of? Have you heard praise from any of the original artists? How did you pick the songs that you would cover?
We are proud of all of our covers! We put our all into them! We all have different favorites. We got tweeted by Justin Bieber, and he commented on one of our covers! It was so crazy! We pick songs that we like and are on the rise.
How does the songwriting work out since they are 6 of you in the group?
Every song is different. Christina heads it all up. She is amazing at melodies and piecing together all our perspectives! We bring her lyrics and she puts them all together and adds her own!
What’s it like being in a band with your sisters? What’s the silliest thing you girls have argued about?
It’s so fun being together! We can be completely honest. It gets hard sometime because were always together, and sometimes we need a break from each other. We’ve argued about a lot of silly things but we always work it out! The silliest thing we argue about is the whole “you can’t tell me what to do!! I’m older than you!” Haha
You all certainly look like you are having a blast in your videos! Can you pick a favorite or two? Why those ones?
Hmmmm we all have different favorites! We love our “Call Me Maybe” videos and our “What Makes You Beautiful” was so fun! We really like the one we just put up, “Lips are Moving” by Meghan Trainor!
What are your favorite songs to perform?
We love performing all the songs on the Renegade EP!
What are some of your favorite all time bands?
We have so many different music tastes! But collectively we love 1D, The Vamps, and 5SOS!
Living or dead, who would you love to work with and why?
We would love to work with One Direction or like a really soulful guy like maybe Sam Smith!
At this point, what do you think is your biggest accomplishment and what do you have your eyes set on next?
Our biggest accomplishment is helping people to stay strong! We’ve gotten so many messages from people saying how much we’ve helped them. We wanna change your the world! We have a European tour for next Spring and who know where else we will go!!!
You just released your fifth EP, Renegade. How are the songs on this EP different or similar to other music that you’ve put out?
They are a lot more personal than music we’ve released in the past! We really put our heart and soul into every song!
Is there anything else that you would like fans to know about you or the band?
We really want to be positive role models; we want to be a light in people’s lives!
