It was started by the singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Adam Young. Back home in Minnesota in his parents basement, he would experiment with different sounds and create songs.
After two independent releases, Owl City finally gained mainstream popularity with the 2009 major label debut album “Ocean Eyes” which includes the six-time platinum single “Fireflies”. Young went on to release “All Things Bright and Beautiful” and then “The Midsummer Station”.
