Since first emerging on the international stage in 2005, MATISYAHU has established a reputation for following his muse — from the stripped-down roots reggae of the gold-certified Live at Stubb’s (2006) to the trippy ministrations of Shake Off the Dust…Arise (2004) and Youth (2006) to the polished eclecticism of Light (2009) . He then incorporated heavier beats and beautiful Mediterranean instrumentations with Spark Seeker (2012) and his most recent personal and emotional evolution with his latest studio album, Akeda (2014) .
As for the series of live releases, in 2010, the lyrical beat-boxing poet and rapper returned to the venerable Austin venue that introduced him for Live at Stubb’s II, demonstrating that all those travels had somehow only strengthened his connection to his musical bedrock. It was a whirlwind half-decade journey, one that earned Matisyahu a place in pop culture at large.
Outer garments, of course, long defined Matisyahu in the eyes of many. “I was the Hasidic reggae superstar,” he says with a knowing laugh. “We live in a world where people tend to think in extremes and categorize with ultimate statements,” Matisyahu says. “While it’s true that at one point it would’ve been pretty accurate to describe me as Hasidic reggae, for most of my career my music has been a blend, a mixture.”
MATISYAHU’s long and prodigious career has included touring the world, releasing five studio albums and selling 3.5 million tracks to date, and now on the 10th anniversary of his breakthrough album Live at Stubb’s he is releasing a new album that celebrates the fan favorite original. Live at Stubb’s Vol. III takes a new look at Matisyahu’s extensive catalogue with stripped down and reworked versions of favorites such as “King Without a Crown”, “Searchin“, “So High So Low,” “Running Away” and more. To support the album, Matisyahu announced fall/winter tour dates with stops including San Francisco, Denver, Baltimore to South America and more – view the tour dates HERE.
Over the course of the tour, Matisyahu and his band will present an evening of stripped-back arrangements highlighting the music that launched his career while taking fans of all ages on a journey through the evolution of Live at Stubb’s to his most recent release Akeda. This tour reconnects Matisyahu with musical collaborators from his early touring days, including Live at Stubb’s guitarist Aaron Dugan. Previous Live at Stubb’s releases have sold over 768k combined albums and over 500k tracks.
