Hamburg’s favorite female duo BOY released their highly anticipated sophomore album “WE WERE HERE” on September 18th. This is the follow up to their 2013 critically acclaimed debut album “Mutual Friends”, featuring the infectiously catchy “Little Numbers.”
The ladies behind BOY are Valeska Steiner and Sonja Glass. They captured the hearts of North American fans in 2013, when they made their stateside live debut with sold-out tour dates, including a successful run at SXSW, where they came out a favorite among festival attendees and landed on numerous “Best Of” lists. Over their time here, they received praise from The New York Times, NPR Music, Billboard, Rolling Stone, Glamour, Nylon and more. They also made huge fans at influential radio stations like Sirius Spectrum, KBCO/Denver, KCMP/Minneapolis, WRLT/Nashville, WXPN/Philadelphia, WXRT/Chicago and KCRW/Los Angeles.
Their new album finds BOY spreading their wings, exploring new textures and musical approaches while remaining true to their aesthetic. “We Were Here” is a sharp burst of delightful melodies, perfectly poised craft and mischievous grace.
The title track and lead single from the album is “We Were Here”is a blissfully defiant declaration that time can never erode the marks we leave on each other or the world at large. It’s a perfect introduction to their sophomore effort, an album of renewed depth and sophistication that maintains all the qualities that first made BOY so special, with Sonja Glass’ ear for the emotional wrench of a subtle key change and her gift for an uncluttered arrangement suitably complemented by Valeska Steiner’s affectingly direct lyrics and beautifully warm vocals. We Were Here is a sharp burst of delightful melodies, perfectly poised craft and mischievous grace.
Before their show at LA’s intimate venue, Hotel Cafe, All Access caught up the duo to discuss their new music, biggest inspirations and how they picked their band name! 🙂
