Last night, Sunday, May 14th, the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund held their inaugural benefit concert entitled “Strange 80s.” Held at the Fonda Theatre, and hosted by Finn Wolfhard (Mike of Netflix’s Stranger Things), “Strange 80s” featured incredible performances by Finn and a rotating cast of musicians & celebrities covering timeless anthems of the 80s. All proceeds for Strange 80s go to Sweet Relief Musicians Fund to provide financial assistance to career musicians and music industry workers in need due to illness, disability or age-related problems.
In 1994 Sweet Relief was incorporated as a 501C3 nonprofit charity and for the past 18 years has been offering vital assistance to professional musical artists in need. Many prominent musicians, professionals and music fans have contributed enthusiastically to Sweet Relief Musicians Fund. Benefits have been performed in venues from Miami to Seattle, with performances donated by many established and emerging artists. Nightclubs, concert halls, radio stations, internet sites, restaurants, clothing and shoe companies,
music retailers, athletes, actors, corporations, foundations and music fans have all participated with Sweet Relief to assist struggling musicians.
The sold-out crowd was entertained for the night by an array of musicians. Each band or artist performed 1 or 2 songs
and then another musician would take the stage.
Some of the performers included OK Go, Taking Back Sunday, Velvet Revolver, Steel Panther, Filter, Anberlin, Goldfinger, Sugarcult, Anthrax, Precious Kid, The Go-Go’s lead singer Jane Wiedlin, Tenacious D and Sarah Silverman, Slipnot’s Corey Taylor, Pearl Aday, 5 Seconds of Summer, Black Veil Brides, “Weird” Al
Yankovic and so many others. There were also a few TV stars that joined the fun too like Dylan Minnette from 13 Reason Why and Chelsea Telmadge from Stranger Things.
It was an amazing night of 80’s music and certainly for an equally amazing cause!
