INTERVIEW: Ring In The New Year with CONFETTI and Open Their Guilty Pleasure Chest. Talk New EP, Creating Music Under Anonymity, Their Guilty Pleasures & MORE.
Alt-pop-rock duo Confetti open up The Guilty Pleasure Chest and give their fans a look inside with the release of their latest EP. The four-track project is a swirling mix of emo, pop-punk and alternative while combing introspective and relatable lyrics with upbeat and fun sonics that showcase the duo’s mature yet youthful outlook on life. Serving as a group that was created “for the people, by the people” Confetti operated under the anonymity of elephants before revealing their true identities as a Kapufaloofas. Having amassed over 100K followers and 1.7 million monthly listeners across Spotify, the duo continue to build their story and bring more people into their fan community otherwise known as their “circus.” Luckily, the impressive ringleaders of this wild circus took some time to chat with All Access to go through their guilty pleasure chest. They talk why they chose elephants to represent the group, how they settle creative differences while avoiding focusing on numbers to measure success and so much more. Enter the “big top” by checking out the full interview below and get ready to discover your new favorite artist.

ALL ACCESS [Austin]: When you look back at your life, was there a distinct moment where you knew you wanted to get into music? What made you want to pursue a career in music?
CONFETTI: The first time we started making music together as brothers, we knew it was fate. We were creating stuff that didn’t really fit in anywhere else, so we decided to start our own circus and make music for the other misfits out there. Thankfully we found like minded people to connect with that are following along on our journey.
AA: Congrats on the release of latest EP, The Guilty Pleasure Chest. Lyrically, the songs are clever and at times intimate – is it difficult to put such honesty and vulnerability in your music? Which song were you most nervous to release?
FETTI: Thank you! Conrad often spearheads the lyrics and it’s awesome to watch his approach to songwriting. We both agree that “Emo” is the most lyrically significant song from this EP – we weren’t necessarily *nervous* to release it but that was definitely the one we felt most vulnerable and connected to.
CONRAD: I think at this point we’ve released a fair amount of music, so those vulnerability butterflies are a little less intense as they once were. Overall this was a super fun EP to write. Channeled our youthful souls and pinched every ounce out on the page (or notepad app on the iphone). Emo definitely had some specific reflection that hit pretty deep.

AA: For each of you, what you consider your guilty pleasure in terms of Music and Video Games?
FETTI: Music: …sometimes…. sometimes I listen to musicals. Eek. | Video Game: I play at least an hour of Rocket League a day. I can’t get enough
CONRAD: Music: I hate musicals, mostly, except for Hamilton… respect. I love film scores; Jaws, Star Wars, Game of Thrones to name a few. I get the goosebumps! |Video Game: Super Smash all day
AA: As a group, Confetti’s image is represented by elephants. How did you decide on elephants? What are you hoping to accomplish releasing music under anonymity rather than not being anonymous?
CONFETTI: Elephants are intelligent, confident, loyal, loud (when they need to be), and all around majestic creatures. Combine that with the fact that we often feel like elephants in the room, and we just really connected to them as a species. Plus, you know, we were raised by elephants so #loyalty.
Re: anonymity – Confetti was created for the people, by the people. For the ‘freaks and geeks and psychopaths’ as we mention on our album – there’s no need for a frontman for that.

AA: You describe your listener and fan community as “the circus.” If you two were truly a part of a real-life circus, what role(s) do you think you’d be in?
CONFETTI: Ringleaders! We’re just trying to orchestrate the chaos that is The Confetti Circus. And never say never that this doesn’t become a real-life or even metaverse-life circus. Look out in 2022 🙂
You guys recently crossed over to 100K followers on Spotify – congrats! You describe in the celebration post that “numbers are for suckers” and in the world of social media and streaming numbers are often seen as metrics for success. How do you two stop from getting caught up in the numbers game? How do you define success?
CONFETTI: THANKS! Get out the tissues… but in our eyes, we were successful the moment that we released our first song and it connected with someone. We didn’t take the first follower for granted and we don’t take the 100,000th follower for granted – we’re all equals around here. Generally, we got fed up with the stigma and bullshit around stats and numbers. There are so many deserving artists that don’t get the recognition they deserve just because of a number, or a label doesn’t get it, or a DSP doesn’t playlist it – it sucks and we’ve been through that.

AA: Based off the lyrics of “Guilty Pleasures” and your recent “Battle Of the Songs: Emo Edition” its clear you guys are big punk/emo fans. If you could have an old pop-punk/emo band tour one specific old album who would the band be and what album? (For example, mine would be Fall Out Boy to tour “Take This To Your Grave”)
FETTI: Bigggg pop-punk fans over here. First of all, thanks for just sending me down an epic Spotify hole. You’re spot on with FOB/TTTYG – what a classic. I’d also raise you Blink-182‘s Take Off Your Pants and Jacket or more chill, Death Cab For Cutie‘s Plans. This could be an entire separate interview sometime if you’re down.
CONRAD: I’m with Fetti 100% on Take off your Pants and Jacket. HUGE Blink-182 fan over here. Blink you could say sums us up pretty nicely.

AA: Being a part of a duo can have its pros and cons. What’s your favorite part about working together? How do you work out creative differences?
CONFETTI: We’re extremely lucky to have way more pros than cons. I think we just *really* enjoy creating stuff for Confetti. It’s fun and refreshing. When we do have differences, one side eventually budges – it’s about trusting each other and making sacrifices when necessary. Creative differences are super healthy, and at the end of the day it’s all brotherly love.
AA: For each of you, if you could only listen to (5) artists for the rest of your life, who would they be?
FETTI: *deep breath* Coldplay, Queen, Kanye, Jay-Z…. and maybe like Leon Bridges to chill to
CONRAD: Ugh, this is a terrible thought! BUT if I HAD to it’d be Rolling Stones, Kanye, Blink-182, Chris Stapleton and Beastie Boys
AA: What else can fans look forward to from you two in 2021 and early 2022?
So many things on the horizon. We’re excited to have discovered our new skin as Kapufaloofas. Now that we’ve revealed our true selves, we’re ready to do some live shows, Tik-Toks, live-streams, whatever – it’s liberating. We just partnered with CloudKid for another EP in 2022 and can’t wait to share it.

A big, elephant-sized shout out to the boys of Confetti for hanging for this latest All Access interview. Congrats on the latest EP release, The Guilty Pleasure Chest, the upcoming CloudKid partnership, the new identities as Kapufaloofas and everything else in between.
