On February 15th (Friday), singer-songwriter India Arie will be releasing her seventh full-length album entitled “Worthy” via BMG. This collection will be made up of 13 songs and 3 interludes. She used her previous acclaimed producers/collaborators for “Worthy,” including executive producer Aaron Lindsey, longtime collaborators Shannon Sanders and Branden Burch, as well as new collaborator Chuck Butler.
When asked about this album, she recently explained, “My favorite definition of the word ‘worthy’ is deserving of regard and respect. The songs on this album implicitly or explicitly carry the message and the energy of the word ‘worthy,’ because all parts of me are worthy. I set out with the title even before I had the song, which is unusual for me, but I wanted to remind people that even though the world ordains that you have to ‘do’ or ‘be’ something to be ‘worthy,’ that’s not true. The truth is there is nothing special we have to do or be, we all are worthy once we arrive at that realization. A person who feels empowered in that way is a much more powerful force in this world.”
Arie has previously released “Acoustic Soul” (2001), “Voyage To India (2002), “Testimony: Vol.1, Life & Relationships” (2006), “Testimony: Vol.1, Love & Politics” (2009), “Songversation” (2013) and “Christmas With Friends (2015). She has sold over 3.3 million records in the US and 10 million worldwide. She has won four Grammy Awards from her 21 nominations, including Best R&B Album.
To celebrate this new collection, she stopped by the Urban Adult Contemporary radio station 102.3FM RadioFree KLJH in Inglewood, California last week to play a few tunes and be interviewed by their radio show host, Tammi Mac. The singer talked a lot about the making of “Worthy” and how it is the most personal collection of hers to date.
Since the station is owned by the legendary Stevie Wonder, it was no surprise that the musician stopped by to chat with Mac and India as well.
At the end of April, India will head out on an extensive U.S tour in support of “Worthy.”
