Even though the British singer Dido hasn’t gone on a world tour in 15 years and just released her first album in 6 years, she sold out the LA venue, The Wiltern last night (Tuesday, 6/25).
Entitled “Still On My Mind,” this fifth collection of songs for the artist was put out on March 8th via BMG. The lead single is “Give You Up.”
Dido wrote and recorded the album in England with her older brother Rollo. She said she “only wanted to make another album if it was with him”, and called the recording process simple and an “absolutely magical experience”, saying it was “made in such an easy way, all the vocals recorded on the sofa, a lot of it recorded at home”
Perhaps it’s because her latest album is full of the sound her fans have grown to love about Dido throughout her career but the Wiltern was indeed filled to the brim with barely enough space for
even this writer to stand! Right away, the singer’s lovely and passionate voice filled the venue backed by a full band.
After a few numbers, she exclaimed to the crowd, “Hello LA! It’s so nice to be back here! I was just thinking earlier today how most of the songs that I sing were written in this city. So it’s really great to be back here!”
Along with brand new songs “Hurricanes,” “Hell After This,” “Friends, “Mad Love,” and “Take You Home,” the crowd was delighted to hear Dido’s older beloved tunes. Lots of filming and singing-along occurred during the singer’s performances of “Life For Rent,” “Hunter,” “Grafton Street,” “Sand in My Shoes,” “Here With Me” and many others.
Before getting into her widely recognized 2000 signature song “Thank You,” she asked everyone to feel free to sing the words with her. She even let the audience do most of the work during the
chorus. The album that this song can be found on, “No Angel,” still remains the top-selling debut by a British female artist worldwide.
In between the shouts and screams of “I love you’s” from the concertgoers, Dido was sincere and joyful in her delivery. Before beginning many of the songs, she shared what the tunes were about and people truly enjoyed learning more about this genuine songbird.
