Get to Know Peta & The Wolves!
Get to know more about your next musical obsession, Peta & The Wolves.
Communicating across the seas via email, Peta Jeffress spoke with us about their creative process, how Peta & The Wolves came to be, and what we can look forward to as they continue to grow.
Reading about you, it sounds like one of you is from Australia and the other from Sweden…? How did you meet and what sparked Peta & the Wolves?
Yes!! From complete opposite side of the world from each other. It defiantly clocked up a lot of frequent fly points. Originally Peta & The wolves consisted of myself “Peta” and a collective of different producers. After the first single Scum was released I went to Sweden on a writing trip. I’ve always been a huge fan of the music that comes out of Sweden, for such a small population the musical talent there it’s quite incredible. I was in a writing session at The Kennel and by chance heard some music being played in the office by The Kennels publisher and had to pop my head in and ask “who is this?” I was hearing beats I’d never heard before. I met Gabriel the next day and we just had an instant connection. I moved to Sweden a few months later and we have now gone on to write the whole EP plus more together.
What was the creative process like writing Blind… did you start with a lyric, with a melody, or an experience and how did it evolve?
I brought the songs subject idea to Gabriel after a conversation we had on a personal level. We both identified with trying to fill a void by numbing your awareness and become completely delusional to blind reality as a short term survival technique. (lol) I think most of us could say we identify with this in some way, shape or form. We took a chance on it lyrically, the sentiment is probably a “truth” you’d keep to yourself. To be with someone whilst thinking of another, however common, it’s not spoken about. We couldn’t find any other way to say it than what it is.. so we just put our words down.
The song is lyrically balanced and gives a well-rounded perspective between being frustrated in a relationship but also still very much in love, are both of you involved in the writing process / both involved in the production of the songs?
Gabriel and I write and produce everything together. We spent almost a year living in the Swedish woods, writing and producing the forthcoming EP where we could literally hear each other’s thoughts. I think a song like Blind comes about when you do work that closely with someone and you can get past the politeness and all the niceties as well as personal barriers to be able to create something honest, personal and relatable. Gabriel and I have defiantly become each other’s therapist. (lol)
How would you personally describe your music?
I don’t really know how to describe it, or even to put it in a genre. It comes out the way it comes out. I know it all derives from an emotionally place lyrically and melodically. I try to alway be honest, maybe it’s a little too honest at times but if I’m not honest, I don’t believe in it.
Your debut EP is out later this year…? Can you give us any insights into what we can expect?
I guess to expect the unexpected. There are a few surprises in there!!!
And of course, we’d love to see you perform live… Any plans for touring in the coming year?
The coming year will be all tour!! Really excited!! We will go wherever we are asked to go!! Hopefully you love Blind and the forthcoming EP and we can come visit!!
