Irish singer-songwriter Gavin James brought his Only Ticket Home Tour to LA’s Roxy Theatre on February 26th (Tuesday). In fact, this was the first show of the US leg of the tour.
In October of 2018, the singer released his second studio album, “Only Ticket Home” via Capitol Records. James previously released the singles “Hearts on Fire,” “Always” and “Glow” from this collection. This album follows his debut album entitled “Bitter Pill” released in 2016.
For an hour and a half, the Dubliner entertained a packed venue of eager fans of all ages. As soon as he began singing, the crowd sang along and knew absolutely every word of his heartfelt and and often melancholy ballads.
It’s clear right away that James is the kind of artist that shines both performing solo on stage and with a full band backing him. He performed just about all the songs on his newest album including “Start Again,” “Glow,” “Faces,” “Cigarette Break,” “Tired,” “Only Ticket Home” and others. Before beginning many of them, he shared a little inside scoop on the making of them. He also played several older favorites like “22,” “Nervous,” “Two Hearts,” and “Hard To Do.” During the encore, he also performed his fan-favorite cover, “Book Of Love.”
James was endearing and charming during his whole show, continually checking in with his audience and asking how Los Angeles was doing. Combined with his beautiful voice, Gavin James is one artist you don’t want to miss seeing live.
