Elektra’s Johnny Yukon Takes Flight in New Single, “Keys”

Elektra Records artist and rapper Johnny Yukon releases first single of 2022 with the latest “Keys.”
Following the 2021 sophomore album Flight Plan 001, “Keys” finds Yukon in a real and introspective place in the dark new single as he navigates concepts of shame and regret.
“This song comes from a real place and story: Parts of me I’m ashamed of and mistakes I made when I was on a trip and in an environment that wasn’t good for me,” Yukon tells All Access.
That sentiment is highlighted in not only the lyrics but also in the cinematic production and mesmerizing sonics found in the latest release. “The synth line matched the darkness of the truth, so the song almost wrote itself. The song tells a story of escape — escape from pain or reality. A longing to fly away, jump into the vastness and disappear.”
And fly away he did – literally. The song is accompanied by a music video that continues the vivid storytelling of “Keys” as the rapper takes flight in a hot air balloon.
“The video idea came from something I’d wanted to do for a long time. The theme of isolation has always run through my music, and after seeing a hot air balloon in the sky one day, I was like, ‘wow I need to make that happen.’ I thought it could be so cinematic.”
Although he had the concept for a while it was an experience he had never done before. “I had never been in one before and was absolutely freaking out when I first went up in it. We had trouble landing too, and got caught in some wind up in the sky. Thankfully we had professionals helping but it was still a trippy experience. I’m glad I did it though.”
