The Surf Rodeo hit Ventura’s Pierpont Beach in California the weekend of July 13th and South Seaward Avenue was shutdown for this awesome annual event. What exactly is the Surf Rodeo you ask? The Surf Rodeo is a contest where hundreds of local surfers, including the likes of Kelly Slater, Dane Reynolds, Rob Machado, and the Malloy brothers, pick a random stick out of the sand to determine what board they will get to ride.
The Surf Rodeo also features a variety of musicians like New Beat Fund, The Vonettes, Shakey Feelin’, and Pato Banton . There were two stages and two beer gardens right on the sand at Ventura’s Pierpont Beach this past Saturday and Sunday for the event. It was one heck of a lineup of 20-plus bands, which also included musical talents, Lime Cordiale, a fun rambunctious, ‘ 70s soul-, funk and rock-influenced pop band hailing all the way from Sydney.
Also on the bill was local Malibu resident, Cisco Adler. Adler is a Singer/Songwriter/Producer who blends reggae/funk-rock/hip-hop fusion, and is known for bringing back the “California sound”. He is one half of the alternative hip hop group Shwayze. His collaboration with rapper Shwayze produced undeniably fun, feel-good grooves.
The duo have released two records that have reached Number #1 on the US iTunes charts and their self-titled first album debuted at #10 on the US Billboard Charts and gave us the hit singles Buzzin’ and Corona and Lime. Adler played some songs off his new album Coastin’ that got everybody on the sand moving to his new surf sound.
Additionally, Seaward Avenue showcased over 70 vendors that specialized in unique trades ranging from Monster drinks to make your own flip books to surfboards! Add in a couple of awesome food trucks and local restaurants, and it was a spectacularly rockin’ weekend at the beach!
