All Access Music writer, Nicole DeRosa got to catch up with BEST COAST leading lady, Bethany Cosentino to ask her what the impetus was behind her participating in Breast Cancer Awareness Month and why she partnered with Teespring for this #gopink campaign and the creative process behind the design.
WHY SHE WANTED TO BE INVOLVED:
“I wanted to be involved in this cause because I feel like it’s important to use my voice to spread awareness about things I support. A lot of people out there, myself included, have been affected by Breast Cancer, and I think that doing something like making a shirt to a) spread awareness and b) donate the profit to a cause that is also near and dear to me, is a really meaningful thing on a lot of levels. I know that there are people out there that don’t really understand why I’ve chosen to make a shirt in support of Breast Cancer awareness and then donate the money to Planned Parenthood- but to me, it makes perfect sense.”
PLANNED PARENTHOOD:
“My stance on Planned Parenthood and the current trouble they are facing is something I am very open and vocal about- but I felt like my tweets and Instagram posts weren’t enough. When this opportunity presented itself to me, I knew it was a great one to take because I knew I could spread the word about Breast Cancer awareness month and also raise some money for Planned Parenthood.”
THE T-SHIRT DESIGN:
“The design on the shirt is from a Loteria card that I have tattooed on my sternum. My mom, who is a breast cancer survivor, recently got a very similar tattoo on her forearm so now we have these kind of matching arrow tattoos, so the design was meaningful in that way too. An arrow by definition is a weapon so to me it made perfect sense to make a t-shirt empowering the battle that so many women go through, and sadly, many lose, with an arrow on it. I am thrilled to have had the chance to design this shirt and spread the word and fight the good fight, and I hope that this shirt impacts a lot of people!”
