Chase Atlantic is an Australian three-piece that produce, perform, and passionately conjure up dark alt-pop, punctuated by rock and R&B as well.
Since forming in 2011, the guys have crossed over 80 million global streams and racked up over 1.1 million monthly listeners on Spotify. They’ve also toured with Blackbear, Sleeping With Sirens, and Lights, and have played notable festivals globally including Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Reading & Leads, and more. In 2015, their viral single, “Friends,” caught the attention of Good Charlotte’s Joel and Benji Madden, who signed them to their music company, MDDN.
On January 25th, they released their new EP, “DON’T TRY THIS” (BMG), as a prelude to their sophomore record, expected later this year.

Thanks for your time! What is on tap for the rest of your day?
Answering interview questions, and making music.
Now that a new year has started, what musical goals does this band have for 2019? What are you most proud of about 2018? Do any of you make any New Years Resolutions?
We want to chart the new album and sell out a 2,000+ capacity venue. As a band, we are most proud of winning the “AAA Up-And-Coming Artist Award” (American Australian Association).
Can you recall the moment when you thought you could be in this group together? Was it hard to think of a name that you could agree on?
It wasn’t hard to find a name we could all agree on. But, it’s hard to find a name that hasn’t already been taken by a clothing brand or another band.
How do you think your hometowns have influenced the sound and how you all carry yourselves in this group?
I think all of us growing up with brothers helped us learn how to be able to put up with each other on the road when things get a little heated.
How has your various musical backgrounds helped shape the sound of this band?
I think mixing classic with rock has helped us become a clean sounding, edgy band.
How do you think that you have grown as a band since forming? What has remained the same?
We have always stayed the same to each other. That’s an important part of being a band. You have to be friends before the band, otherwise it will never last long.
Let’s talk about your newest EP, “Don’t Try This.” What was it like recording this collection? What was it like hearing it all for the first time played back to you? Did anything surprise you about the overall process?
The process was definitely different, as it’s the first record we recorded on the road. We are so used to recording in a studio or in a bedroom that it became quite a difficult process.
What was the inspiration for your current single “Like A Rockstar”? How do you think this song prepares listeners for the rest of your EP?
The EP was about a lot of our experiences on the road and the past year of touring, so the entire record was an opener into how we have been living for the past year.
While it’s difficult, can you talk about the inspiration behind a couple other songs on this collection?
Inspiration is always all around us. A lot of the time our surrounding environments are actually the opposite of inspiring, so in that case we are inspired to create our own world. We’re also inspired to work harder to get out of financial situations and ultimately live a more inspiring lifestyle.
What has it been like making your forthcoming sophomore album? What has changed about how you record music this time around?
We are still in the process of making it currently, so it’s too early to tell how it’s going to sound or change.
Generally, how do you all go about writing your music? Do you write together or separately?
It depends on the song. Usually, we all write together. But sometimes, Mitchel (frontman) might have an idea he wants to do on his own, and he will write most of the vocal melodies and lyrics himself, and then we will work on it afterwards.
Where do you think you are all happiest- in the studio recording new music, on stage performing or elsewhere?
When you’re touring, you miss the studio, and when you’re recording, you miss the road. The grass is always greener.
Where can fans see you perform next? What do you think makes an ideal show for this group?
We will be announcing some new tour dates this year, and an ideal show has tons of production/fog/strobes/loud drums.
Do you find that all of social media and keeping up with your fans has gotten so overwhelming? Or do you rely heavily on others to take care of that for the band? Which platform would you say that you enjoy engaging with the most?
It’s not too overwhelming. We should honestly probably be more interactive, but at the same time we always need to take care of our mental health. Everything we post is usually by just us. On the odd occasion of a release we will pre-script a tweet or Instagram post, which will almost always contain content or media that we have created ourselves, including all branding!!
We are currently living through a very trying and politically charged time right now so I am curious to know how you all think being musicians and in this band still gives you the most joy in life today? Do you find that your music is an escape to all the current events?
We have said that we don’t consider ourselves a political band, but if you use our music to escape the current events, we are glad we could help.
What musicians would you love to work with in the future? What artists have really been inspiring this group and your music since day 1?
We would love to work with Tame Impala, The Weeknd, and Travis Scott.
What do you hope is the message of your music? What do you hope people continue to take away from your songs?
I don’t believe all songs have to have a message. But, a lot of the time listeners will create their own message behind the songs. I think that’s the beauty of music. Let people create their own story, and don’t tell them how to feel or what to take away from the songs.
Is there anything else that you would like to share with our readers about this group?
Album two is on the way. See you out there. x
