As The Youngest Son of the Legendary Singer DIANA ROSS, R&B Singer EVAN ROSS Has Plenty Of Musical Inspiration!

Sure, Evan Ross may be the youngest son

of the legendary performer, Diana Ross and Ashlee Simpon’s husband and brand new father of her baby, but he is making a name for himself today. His single “How To Live Alone” with rapper, T.I, is out now.

From a quick break in the studio, Evan took some time to chat with All Access about his new single, becoming a father and what else he has been up to!

All your life, you’ve been constantly surrounded by so many incredible artists. Who do you think has made the most impact on you and your career?

I would have to say my mother and right next to that, Michael Jackson. I also think that all of the Motown family have been a big inspiration to me when it comes to music and my creativity. People like Barry Gordy. Yeah, basically people who have kind of been around for awhile. I’m also inspired by my wife too.

You just released your “How To Live Alone” single. What was the inspiration for it and what was it like working with T.I on it?

Oh, it was great! “How To Live Alone” came about when I was figuring out what the theme of my album was going to be. You know, what I was going to be talking about. I had just gotten married and at the same time, I was thinking a lot about love and how finding love is a good thing and that you don’t have to be someone that’s about finding as many girls as possible. There is something really amazing about finding that one person that you really love. And so, the song was basically about that, if you can’t be with the person you really love, you can learn how to live alone.

T.I has been a really good friend of mine for a long time. We were talking one day and I told him that I really wanted to work on something with him. He looked at some of my stuff. Out of all my songs, he really connected with “How To Live Alone” the most. I think he understands the song- being a married man and the whole thing. That feeling of only having one person being right for you.

Why do you think it took the time that it did for you to get started on your upcoming debut album?

I’ve been working on music for a long time. It takes a long time. It even takes a long time right now because I think there’s a real specific way to do it right. You gotta find a way to be true to yourself in the process and doing things the way you like to do them. So in that sense, it takes a long time. You can’t just go out there and throw yourself in something without having all the specifics of what your music is going to be about. It just takes a while and I really wanted it to be right.

It’s all happening right now and for the right reason and at the right time because I’m in the right place to do it. I’m in a happy place and I feel like I want to bring happy music into the world and I have a story to tell now.

How is your residency at Sayers Club going?

Oh, it’s been amazing! It’s so fun. Every week is different and it’s been fun to perform with everyone. Yeah, I’m enjoying it. It’s nice to figure out the live performance of it all because every time is different. You can’t really predict anything. No matter how many times you practice. It’s kind of nice to have that kind of spontaneity.

Do you think that you and Ashlee will ever release music together?

Of course! In a dream world, I’d love to go on tour with her! We could spend all our time together. I mean, we already did a record together that’s incredible. We are going to do more for sure! One of the records is called “The Mission 11” and it’s a beautiful record. So we did that together. But yeah, we are going to keep making music together. I mean, we sing together all the time now.

How do you think fatherhood will change you as an artist?

I’m sure it’s going to change me in every kind of way. I already feel changed. I’m so excited to meet her. It’s hard to really explain it before it happens but I do know that already, it’s the most important thing in my life so it’s gotta change probably every aspect of my life.

When can fans expect your debut album to be released?

Soon. I think we are going to drop the EP first and then we’ll release the album. But very soon. In this upcoming year for sure, we are going to have a lot more music out. We’ve already got a ton of music ready to go so now we are just waiting for the right opportunity.

What do you think has been your biggest accomplishment so far in life?

In my career, just being true to myself is the ultimate of what I have achieved. And I’m making a life right now! That’s probably the biggest thing.

You’ve been in quite a few films. Do you think you’ll continue acting?

Yeah, I have a ton of stuff coming out soon movie-wise. The new Hunger Games film comes out in November which I’m in and there’s a bunch of other ones too. I’m gonna keep acting. I love doing movies but it’s hard to do both at the same time so it’s just going to be about scheduling everything in.
