As the oldest daughter of actors Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, Rumer Willis has spent her life in the spotlight. The light recently got even brighter when she was one half of the team that won the 20th season of Dancing With The Stars.
Yes, her and her dancing partner, Val Chmerkovskiy took home the coveted DWTS mirror ball trophy. This summer, Willis will join the other Dancing With The Stars contestants on the 40-city “Dancing with the Stars: Perfect 10 Tour”.
Before DWTS, Rumer has acted in several shows including Pretty Little Liars, Workaholics, Army Wives, 90210 and others. She has also been in several movies like Now And Then with her mother and The Whole Nine Yards with her father.
What’s next for Rumer? Well, a full-length debut album! She is currently in the studio working with well-known songwriter, Linda Perry. Music has always been a passion for Willis so it’s no surprise that she is finally going to release a collection.
Learn more about Rumer’s experience on DWTS and her very bright future in the following All Access interview:
Thanks so much for your time, Rumer! Where does this interview find you today?
I am currently in rehearsals for Sway.
First of all, congrats on winning this season of Dancing With The Stars! What was that experience like for you? Where will you be putting the Mirror Trophy?
Thank you. It was truly a life changing experience. I really can’t even begin to explain what an amazing journey I went on. My mirrorball is on my dresser.
Growing up, your dad was in a band. Did that influence you to become a performer? Have you ever performed with him? Does he still perform at all? Do your sisters or mom have any musical aspirations? Was music always around your home when you were growing up?
For sure but more than that was my dads taste in music and all of the music he played for me when I was growing up. My sister Scout sings too.
I understand that in the past, you have regularly performed here in LA in various clubs. What’s that been like? Do you hope to play more now that DWTS is over and you want to focus on your music career?
Actually, I had a residency at The Sayers Club for about 2 years which was an amazing outlet for me. I will definitely be focusing on my music a bit more but I plan to keep dancing and acting as well. But I am very excited to be singing this summer on the DWTS tour.
When can people expect a debut album from you? What kind of music will be on it?
Well I am currently working with Linda Perry on my first album but not sure when exactly it is going to be released.
What artists have consistently inspired you through the years? Who would be your dream duet partner?
I have always listened to a lot of jazz and blues and a lot of older artists…. Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Muddy Waters, Aretha Franklin, Etta James. I would love to do a duet with Beyoncé.
On DWTS, you and your partner Val Chmerkovskiy recorded your own dance-pop version of Britney Spears’ “Toxic”. Why did you two decide to do that? Were you happy with the end result of the song?
We really wanted our freestyle to be something that we created together from the ground up.
