An Interview With The Very Promising Singer, CAILEE RAE on Her Wild Instagram Following, Her Upcoming New Music and More!

What began as a casual Instagram post, later became a catalyst that would propel Cailee Rae and her unique voice to the top of the rising stars.  From the moment she hit post on that first video of her singing, it was impossible for the world not to be enchanted by her incredible voice.  Over half a million Instagram followers later, 15-year-old Cailee has found a way to use social media as a creative platform to share her remarkable talent and launch a career in the traditional music industry.

As a dedicated musician, Cailee is involved in all aspects of the creative process.  When writing her own music, Cailee draws inspiration from everything she sees and hears through her everyday life.  Some of her favorite places to draw this inspiration from are airports.  She loves to watch strangers in transit and envision their stories.

At first listen it is hard to specifically define Cailee’s sound; it is completely unique – a blend of “indie-pop” that Cailee says you must hear to get a true feel for her style.  She loves to be able to put her own original stamp on the music she creates, as evidenced both in her covers of popular songs, and in her own original music.

2016 has been a breakout year for Cailee as she is set to release new original music that showcases her evolution as an artist.  Since introducing her eclectic voice to the world through cover songs, Cailee has been working hard on defining whom she is as an artist by fine-tuning her sound and embracing the qualities that make her voice unique.  Later this year Cailee would like to embark on a tour to connect with her fans one-on-one and truly make a difference in their lives through her relatable melodies and lyrics.

Cailee’s goal is simple, “I just want to spread love and messages through my music, and fill stadiums with people and with love.  Music is something that brings people together and helps them.  It’s the only language that everyone understands.”

Thanks for your time! How’s 2016 been treating you so far? What were some of the highlights of 2015 for you and your music? 

Hello! Thank you so much. 2016 has been amazing so far. I have a lot I’m looking forward to this year but I had so much fun stuff going on last year as well. One of the major highlights for me was touring. I toured with Lindsey Stirling which was amazing. She is so nice. Me and my band were on a tour bus and really got to experience tour life. It was a blast.

What does a typical day look like for you lately? Have you been able to really process everything that you’ve gone through with your music and getting discovered online? 

Honestly, no! Everyday I wake up in a complete dream. I love what I do. I’m so lucky and humbled to be able to wake up and be in the position I’m in. Lately things have been crazy! But I love it. I’m constantly working and getting the new stuff ready. I actually just filmed my music video for my new single which I’m so excited about. Being busy is the best.

Growing up, did you always want to be a singer? Can you remember your first musical moment? Has your family always been supportive of you and your singing?  

My whole life I have just been a dreamer. I never actually thought I would be a singer though. It was always a passion of mine but I kept it on the down low. I just remember always singing. You would always hear either a musical instrument or my voice blasting through the house and someone yelling “CAILEE PLEASE BE QUIET!” (Laughter) My family has ALWAYS supported me though. I’m so lucky to have such a great support system behind me. There isn’t a day they aren’t there for me.

Can you talk about that one Instagram post that propelled your singing career? What were you singing in the video? And now, after all that, you have over half a million followers! 

It has all really shocked me! I feel so honored to have so many people supporting me. The real “launching point” type video that I put out was to Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space.” It’s actually one of my favorites.

Let’s talk about your style of music. How would you describe it? Have you always wanted to sing in this way? 

The best way I can describe my music is as a mix of pop and a whole bunch of other genres. It has a strong pop base but those few other genres that are inside of it. My music comes out exactly how I want it to at that moment and time in my life. I think I’m definitely evolving and the style of my music will change over the years but my music right now is exactly how I dreamed it would be.

I think it’s really awesome and admirable that you want to be a part of every aspect of your career. What do you think has been the most fun and most challenging part of it all so far? 

I love being a part of it all. I mean, it’s hard making major decisions but when you know what you want for yourself and how you want your career to look, those decisions get easier to make. It’s all about taking risks. It’s really fun to come up with everything though. I love seeing my visions come to life.

Has anything surprised you about the music business? 

The music industry is actually so small. Which surprised me. Everyone knows everyone. It’s so funny. The cool thing about the music industry is that there is always something to learn and something to get better at. It’s always evolving  and changing but the creativity is always there. I love it.

What have been a couple favorite covers that you have released? Are you currently working on any now? 

One of my favorite covers that I have done is “Replay” by Iyaz. It’s an older jam but it’s one of those songs that I remember listening to in my bedroom when I was 9. I got to put my own “Cailee twist” on it which was so fun. I’m always doing Instagram videos but I am getting ready to do a cover for YouTube soon. I have so many ideas 🙂

Who are some of your very favorite artists? Who would you love to collaborate with one day? 

I love so many artists. They all are so unique and have so many different things that are cool about them. Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and Taylor Swift are all really great. I would love to collaborate with someone. I think Justin Bieber or Shawn Mendes would be a lot of fun!

When can we expect your debut EP and then album? Are you constantly working on it now? 

I’m so excited to release my new music. I just finished my music video for my new single “Anchor” coming out May 13th, and then I’m releasing my EP in June which I’m so so so excited about. Me and an amazing team of people worked really hard on all of it. I hope everyone loves it.

Are you excited to eventually go out on tour and perform to live audiences? 

I really hope to tour after all of the music comes out. Touring is one of my favorite things. I love performing. It’s such a addicting adrenaline rush. I would love to see all my beautiful fans too. My Caibaes are everything.

At the end of the day, what do you hope is the message of your music? What do you hope listeners take away from your songs? 

I just want to inspire people and make them feel good. I want to pass on life lessons and experiences to my fans and really give listeners fun and emotional songs that they can connect to.  Music helped me learn to love myself and find acceptance with my voice and my dreams and I want to do the same for others.
