Thanks for your time! What is on tap for the rest of your day for you both?
Hi! Today I’m heading to set soon to film an episode of Raven’s Home. After that, I’m going to hang out with my grandma who’s visiting from New York with my mom and uncle.
Now that we are well into the 6th month of the year, how would you say that 2019 is treating you both so far? What are some goals that you have for this year? How close are you to reaching them?
So far 2019 is awesome. Working on my show and putting out great music are two things that I love to do and so far they’re both happening this year. I’ve been in the studio a lot and there’s even more great music that’s going to be released later in the year.
How do you think your hometowns have influenced your sound and how you carry yourselves?
Being a New Yorker, my attitude and taste in music and whole demeanor are influenced in ways I don’t even realize, it’s just part of who I am. Musically I am influenced because I spend so much time listening to New York rappers that I look up to, to make music with a similar sound. From older artists like Cardi B and Nicki Minaj to the newbies like Lil TJ and TJ Porter. A lot of NY rappers influence my style.
Why would you say that you and Annie Leblanc work so well together?
I think we work well together because were the same age, we’re both really easy going and our personalities mesh so well. I’ve loved working with Annie.
Let’s talk about your newest single “Who You Are.” What was the inspiration for this track? How excited are you to be performing it live soon?
We wanted to make a Girl Power anthem that reminds girls of how special and powerful they have the potential to be. Performing it together is going to be amazing. I can’t wait!
What can you tease about your upcoming special performances in New York? What can fans expect from these two shows?
It’s going to be a lot of fun. We’re looking to interact with our fans as much as possible, as well as put on a really entertaining show. I think the fans are going to walk away saying they had a great time and can’t wait for us to all do it again someday.
Do you have plans to work on more new music together?
I would love to work together on more music. We’d love to make that happen.
Where do you think you are both happiest- in the studio recording new music, on stage performing or elsewhere?
I love being in the studio so much but having an audience — for me, there’s nothing like it. Being on stage is my favorite place to be.
What has been a favorite show of yours to date? What do you think makes an ideal performance for this band?
My first concert ever was Jay Z/Kanye. It will always be the greatest show I’ve ever seen. The energy and dedication of their fans was something magical.
How do you think being musicians gives you all the most joy in life today?
I think it can be an escape. Like no matter how your day went, no matter what else is going on in your life, music can just be something to enjoy and help you relax.
We are currently living through a very trying and politically charged time right now so I am curious to know how your own music is reflecting this time period? If you don’t think it is, why is that? Would you say that other musicians are making music that has been influenced by this climate?
I definitely have strong opinions about things going on in the world today but I try to keep that out of my music. I want my music to be something that everyone enjoys and can bring people together.
Who would you love to work with in the future? Who are some of your favorite artists right now? What do you think would be a dream collaboration for each of you?
I love collaborations and putting two people’s musical sounds together. I would love to work with some of the young, up and coming NY rappers. I have so many favorite artists including J. Cole, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, TJ Porter, Lil TJ, DaniLeigh, and so many more. My dream collab will always be with Nicki.
Where would you love to hear your music being played? A TV show, a movie, in your favorite store, etc…?
I would love to one day make the theme song for a great TV show.
What do you hope is the message of your music? What do you hope people continue to take away from your songs?
I want my music to make people dance and smile. I hope they take away from the songs to have fun, be happy and feel good about themselves!
Is there anything else that you would like to share with our readers about your music?
Just keep listening! I have so many great songs coming out, so stay tuned. 🙂
