An Interview With The New Jersey Identical Twin Brother Duo, TRU FAM!

Meet Tru Fam, the New Jersey twin duo! As identical twins, Sha and Just I found motivation in their chemistry as brothers, best friends and their closest critics. “It’s pretty much a given. We know what one another might want on a record without saying a word.”

Thanks for your time! How did you two first meet each other? How long have you been a duo? How did you come up with your duo name?

Just I – Thanks Leah ,for having us . Unfortunately we both met a long time ago . Sha is my twin brother and my best friend . We are always together . Our name wasn’t to difficult to come up with because were actually family . So it made sense for us to create Tru Fam .

What’s it been like being in a band with your twin brother? Do you feel like you understand each other much more and agree on more musical decisions?

Sha- Working with Just I has been great.. Literally this guy is my ACE!!!! There’s no other person I would rather work with. We are at a point where we trust each other at 100 percent, on and off the stage. Tru Fam is in this to win and there is no turning back.

Just I- Wow, it’s pretty amazing. We literally are together every day. We definitely understand each other better than most people because of our bond. The twin bond is for real! (Laughter) On stage our connection is crazy and we pretty much think alike. Being that we are brothers, we compete against each other too. It’s a brotherly competition of course. We are always trying to push ourselves to the next level. Yes, we even like the same music. Our music palate is different from most because we enjoy so many different artists.

Can you talk about the brand you created, ULTRACULTURE? What’s it all about and why did you decide to create it?

SHA-  Ultraculture is our fan base. It’s all about going above and beyond and just staying creative. It’s about being yourself and not caring about what someone thinks of you. We came up with Ultraculture one day at a show. The fans really liked it and we ran with it. Since that day our fans and everything about our brand is on an ULTRA LEVEL. Ultraculture Baby!

What was the inspiration for your newest single “Super Paranoid”? Typically, where do you two get the inspiration for your music?

SHA- Super Paranoid was inspired by past relationships all combined in this one bubble. It just feels so good and is from a place that is authentic .The instrumental really takes me on this high and its one of my favorite songs. As artists we are huge fans of Kid Cudi and Lana Del Rey etc.. I love going off vibes when it comes to music. It’s all about the songwriting and vibes…

How do you share the songwriting responsibilities with each other?

Just I- Our songwriting responsibility change. We vibe off to the beat that we may currently be writing to at that moment. We actually have to really feel the production of the record. Sometimes we write as if we are performing the record.  It’s a fun process for us to create something that people can relate to. I must admit lately though Sha has been writing a lot of our newer records. He has been in a zone (laughter) and he is a really gifted songwriter. I’m happy to have him on my team.

What has been some of your favorite show experiences? What made them so special?

Sha- There has been so many moments when performing. Crazy moments if I may say so but the thrill of performing is one of the best feelings ever. Anytime you can get the crowd to react to your art, it’s magic. Our show is all about expressing our art. We don’t just hop all around the stage. (Laughter) Tru Fam tries to bring a unique experience and give you something different.

What are some of your upcoming shows? What can fans expect from them?

Just I -We have a couple shows in our hometown. The venue Smacktone, we have pretty much made famous (Laughter) and we usually sell out those shows. We will be performing soon in NYC as well. Shows will be happening!!! We have been booked to perform at a few upcoming parties as well which is cool.

What artists have continued to inspire you two? Who would you love to work with one day?

Just I – Artists that inspire me are Kid Cudi, Frank Ocean and Lana Del Rey. Their lyrical content always keeps me intrigued. I can listen to their music all the time. That’s why in our music, we love to create stories and emotions that people can relate to.

Sha- Everything Justi stated was perfect. I’d also throw in Rihanna and the band THE 1975 in there as well.

What do you both hope is the message of your music? What do you hope listeners take away from it all?

Sha- Everyone should know that were very original. We are from a place in New Jersey where music or a sound of ours doesn’t exist at all. You either have Fetty Wap or basically Jersey Club music. We are from another world in my opinion and we make music that you can’t ignore.
