An Interview With The French Actress and Rising Musician, LINDA BELLA!

Linda Bella is an Los Angeles-based actress, known for Filth to Ashes, Flesh to Dust (2011), Monsters in the Woods (2012) and Devil’s Domain (2016). She was born and raised in the south of France and is now fluent in English, French, German and Italian. Today, she is moving forward with her music career. She recently dropped her newest single, “Blackest Darkness (Nothing At All).“ This is the first song Linda has written. This dark pop ballad is about the aftermath of a relationship gone bad.

Thanks for your time today! Where does this interview find you?

I am at a hair salon getting my hair done.

Is there music playing in the background? If so what is it?

Yes Samantha James, and the song is called “Angel Love.”

What music gets you instantly out of a bad mood?

I love listening to Reggae, It always makes me feel good especially Bob Marley.

What is a song you are loving these days?

I love Despacito from Justin Bieber and Attention from Charles Puth.

Growing up, did you always want to be a musician?

There are a lot of different things I wanted to do. Every week I would come up with something new. I think I started becoming very interested in music around 12 years-old.

Can you recall your earliest musical memory?

I remember that everyday when I would come home from school, I would put on some music really loud and sing. I didn’t like school very much and I couldn’t wait to get home so I could sing.

Was there a time where you thought of doing something completely different?

I didn’t like most subjects in school but I absolutely loved English, I had a true passion for the English language so I thought about becoming an English teacher at some point

Musically, did you approach this year any differently than you did last year?

I started working on reggae this year and I’m really happy about that. And my focus was to record an LP cause I’ve written so many songs.

How has 2017 been treating you and your career?

It’s been a good year, I released my very first song this year, I have an album in the works and I had a movie coming out. And I’m about to shoot a new one next month.

What are you most excited about for in 2018?

My album will come out in 2018 and I’m very excited about that

I always like to ask artists about where they came from and how that city or town has influenced them as an artist now. So how do you think your hometown has affected you and your music today? How has your sound been changed by  living in France and then the US?

I’m from a small town in the south of France and my tastes in music have not changed. My musical tastes don’t change and are not influenced based on where I live. To me music is universal. People from all over the world can relate to the same song. Music has no borders.

Let’s talk about your video for “Blackest Darkness” that just came out? How creatively involved were you with the making of that video? Where did the inspiration from it came from?

I had a very specific idea of what I wanted and the director went a different direction. If I had to do it again I would stick  to my ideas and not let other people decide for me. Cause at the end of the day, it’s my music.

Do you have plans to release more new music soon or a full length album of new songs?

Yes a new single is going to be released soon. And a full length album next year.

What is it like switching between singing in French or English? Do they come just as easily to you as the other? Do you enjoy singing in one more than the other?

My songs are in English. I enjoy singing in both languages. As far as songwriting is concerned, writing in English comes more naturally I guess cause I’ve never written in French. And English lyrics come to me all the time. I guess I never tried to write in French, maybe I should.

I’m curious to know if you prefer singing or acting more? How do you think you use both of them to be a better performer in general?

I enjoy both equally. I don’t think I could choose between one of them. My background in acting definitely helps me when I record vocals, I put a lot of importance on conveying the emotions of the lyrics. A song to me should be alive and it tells a story.

What is a project, film or music that you are most proud of today? What has brought you the most joy in life so far?

I would say writing songs. I love songwriting. It’s very creative to come up with the  lyrics and the melodies of a song. I absolutely love it, being in the studio and creating new music. It’s also very fun, never boring. And I’m really proud of my album which will come out next year.

With the summer over now, what was something fun or new that you tried this summer?

I was on vacation in Mexico and I started working out every morning and loved it. I never really liked to go to the gym but being there made me like. It’s like I discovered the joy of working out this summer in Mexico.

How active are you on social media? How important do you think it has all been to your career? Do you find that it’s hard to keep up to date on all the different platforms?

I’m pretty active on Facebook and Instagram. I don’t really use Twitter and I’m not on Snapchat. I don’t have time to be on all of them so I picked my favorites Facebook and Instagram and I post regularly on those two. I really don’t know how important it’s been to my career. I think social medias are a great way to connect with people

We are living in a crazy and at times rough world right now so I am curious how you think being a musician gives you the most joy in life today? Do you think that new music being created today is going to reflect these hard times?

Well to me what gives me the most joy is the creation of a song, the songwriting. And absolutely  I think music totally reflects on the time and society we live in.

Who are some of your favorite artists or rather, what musicians have continued to inspire you and your music? What musicians would you absolutely love to work with in the future?

There are so many. I really love Sia, she’s an amazing singer as well as a songwriter. I also love Lana Del Rey, Dr Dre, The Weeknd and David Guetta. I absolutely love their work.

What do you hope fans continue to take away from your new and older music?

Well I just released my first single so I don’t have any old music yet. “Blackest Darkness (Nothing At All)” is a dark pop song about the love that can remain after a relationship ends.

What advice would you give to a young person who is thinking about being a musician one day?

I would say, jump in, do it, follow your dreams. Don’t let anyone discourage you. Write music, write some lyrics. And I think it’s important to play an instrument. I’m learning the piano now and I wish I had done it sooner.
