Never give up… Never give in… those words are the foundation of which Through Fire was born. This four piece hard rock band hailing from Omaha, Nebraska quickly caught the attention of several industry executive’s and inked a deal with Sumerian Records in September of 2015. With anthems such as “Stronger” and “Breathe”, Through Fire was set to make their mark in the rock world.
Comprised of lead singer Grant Kendrick, guitarist Justin McCain, drummer Patrick Mussack and bassist Jesse Saint, the bands live show is poised to rally fans throughout the world. Impacting radio along with their video premier for “Stronger” in January 2016, Through Fire set out on the road with Adelitas Way for their first tour and introducing their brand to radio and fans alike. That very successful run was followed up with 7 more weeks on the road with industry veterans OTEP for a full US assault.
Entering February 2017, their single “Breathe” hit #16 on the Active Rock Chart, TOP 20 on the Billboard mainstream rock chart, TOP 10 on the UTR rock radio chart and #1 on Octane’s Big Uns Countdown for a second straight time. March brings in a new touring year and kicks it off with a month on the road with Black Stone Cherry, the announcement of stints with Seether and another tour soon to be announced for early summer as well as a myriad of radio festivals all over the country.
Continuing on with building their brand and sonic power, April of 2017 see’s the release of a deluxe version of the album “Breathe” with bonus tracks and a few surprises for their fans as well as a vinyl option.
Through Fire is quickly solidifying a permanent spot amongst the industry’s elite acts and 2017 is set to be a breakout year. Never give up… Never give in… They are just scratching the surface of whats to come!

What are some words you would use to describe 2016 for you and your music? What were some of the highlights? What are you most excited about for 2017?
Crazy, whirlwind, grateful. It was definitely a busy year! Some of the highlights were hitting #1 on iTunes, our song Stronger being featured on WWE Backlash, being nominated for BEST NEW ARTIST at the Rock Radio Awards, winning Breakout Artist Of The Year on Octane, touring the country coast to coast, having radio play us all over the country and of course, meeting all our fans!
Growing up, did you all always want to be musicians? Can you recall your earliest musical memory?
I was born a musician. I remember being a kid listening to my parents Van Halen albums playing air guitar, drumming on my toy box lids and performing for family friends who would come over. My parents eventually got me a guitar and I haven’t put it down since. Music was always my way of communicating to the world.
How did you come up with your band name and how did you all meet each other? Was it difficult to narrow it down? What other names were you considering?
We had all known each other for a while and been in bands together before. We wanted a name that really meant something and represented us well. Through Fire stuck because it hit home with what we’ve been through and what were willing to go through in order to achieve our dream of doing this for a living.
How do you think your sound has been influenced by being from Omaha, Nebraska? What is the music scene like there?
Omaha has a great scene. Lots of talent but very much known for it’s indie roots, being the home of Saddle Creek Records and Bright Eyes. We wanted to do something different, something that would shine light on the growing hard rock scene. After making some noise and being offered deals from several labels, we signed with Sumerian Records. We’re very appreciative and grateful to have so much support locally from the fans to our hometown stations 89.7 The River & Z92 to tv as well. So cool to have the whole community believe in us and it’s also great to help build the scene.
Last year, the band embarked on your very first tour with Adelitas Way. What was it like? What were some favorite venues and crowds along the way? Where are you excited to head to with Black Stone Cherry and Seether on your upcoming tours?
It was very exciting to hit the road and have our first opportunity to show people what we were all about. Adelitas treated us very well and it was a great tour. We love playing everywhere so to pick just one venue isn’t possible… we could play in front of 10 people or 20,000 and we will give it our all no matter what. Very honored to be on the road with Black Stone Cherry, they’re great guys… Seether is going to be an incredible run as well, very stoked about that!
What was it like being 1 out of only 5 bands in the country nominated for Best New Artists at the rock radio / RadioContraband Awards in Vegas last year?
Surreal. It was an absolute honor to be nominated. We can’t thank RadioContraband and everyone evolved enough.
How do you think this band’s sound has grown since you first formed? How would you compare the sound of your previous single, “Stronger” with “Breathe”?
We’ve been on tour pretty much nonstop since we finished this album. We’ve grown exponentially from a live standpoint. We’re a much tighter band now because of all the work we’re putting in on the road. In regard to comparing Stronger and Breathe, they have some of the same elements because they live on the same album. However, they both offer a different emotional connection and provide a different feel.
What do you think of the songs on Rock Radio these days? How does Through Fire compare to everything else that is out there? What do you think is something that your sound is bringing that no one is playing these days?
We’re not trying to reinvent the wheel and we wont pretend like we are. What we bring to the table are songs that truly resonate and connect with people and a live show that is like a shot of adrenaline to the heart. We love rock radio and many of the bands that are played on radio are friends of ours. We’re very proud to be part of the rock community.
Next month, you will be releasing a deluxe version of your album, “Breathe.” How different will this deluxe version be to the original one already released? How did you come up with idea to create this new version?
The deluxe version will include a cover of Jar of Hearts, acoustic, unedited and extended versions of Stronger & Breathe, alternative art work and a guitar tab booklet for a few songs. We wanted to give our fans more so the label suggested putting this together. The deluxe version will also be available in vinyl!
At the end of the day, what do you hope is the message of your music? What do you hope people take away from your songs?
We hope to have a positive impact on people. We’ve had tons of fans tell us that our music has helped them through personal struggles in life. If we can help through music, we all win together.
Is there anything else that you would like to share with our readers about yourselves or your music?
We’re very excited for what the future holds. We’re going to keep touring, keep working hard and doing what we do. We’ve very thankful for the tremendous amount of support everyone is showing us and we look forward to recruiting more fans to TFIRE NATION!
