Thanks for your time! What are some words you would use to describe 2016?
-
Building , Growing, Learning , Absorbing, Mastering , Breaking, Fixing, Taking, Giving, Laughing, Loving, Excitement, Anticipation.
What were some of the highlights for the band?
-
Our first show was with Atreyu, we brought over 60 people to attend our first show with a great Headliner and because the event was sold out , we had the chance to play in front of a packed house. By the time Atreyu played 1/3rd of the crowd had left. It was a blessing and a great memory that we had the chance to play in front of over 300 people for our first show and do a great job. Atreyu told us they were impressed.
What are you all most excited about for 2017?
-
Releasing our album , touring, and living the Rock Star lives we’ve dreamed about since we were kids.
How did Inertia first form?
In 2014 , Zack reached back out to Dillon who had previously played the drums for their first band “Memoirs of a Blackened Sky”, but this time with a request to have him sing for the band and later on to play piano. After originally having screams in the music, the band decided to go 100% singing and move away from a style they started out with that was more adjacent to bands like “The Black Dahlia Murder”, “Arsis “ or “The Faceless” to name a few.
How did you come up with your band name?
We wanted to have a 1 word band name. We wanted to find a word that fit the description of “ never stopping no matter what”. Inertia is the tendency to stay in motion or stay in rest. What that means to us is that when we decide to do something, we tend to do it. We can’t be stopped. Thats where our heads were at when we came up with the name. A natural, unstoppable force . Once in motion, we stay in motion.
What other names were you considering?
-
RedStag was a name we kept coming back too.
Let’s talk about your upcoming release of your album “The Process.” What was it like putting this collection together?
It was hard work. Kevin Hart says it best. “Everyone wants to be famous, but nobody wants to put the work in.” Well said Kevin. If you want to be a Rock Star, you have to work for it. $50,000 in the whole of our own money and 3 years of writing, recording, marketing, labeling, designing, planning and preparing later, we are here. Were so happy to be here, and there really isn’t any time at all quite like the present.
What was the inspiration like for these songs?
-
Growing up, learning to grow up fast, moving out at 16, discovering bills, learning consequences, going to court , having friends die, watching drugs take other people’s lives . Life inspired these songs. We know the struggles of growing up and so we wanted to write a record for the people, for our people , for the Rock/Metal Scene and even everyone else in the world to have something to relate to . We took influence from bands like Bring Me The Horizon, Thrice, Circa Survive, Northlane, Paramore and many other amazing artists that have found their way into our hearts over the years. Being inspired by those great artists, were looking to provide the same impact to our fans and first time listeners.
How do you think this band has musically grown since you first formed?
We’ve gone from Death Metal to Dark Pop/Alt Rock. We’ve “ Metamorphasized “
What has remained the same?
Our commitment to become living examples of the Modern Rock Star.
How do you all keep up with your social media pages?
I have an iphone with notifications turned on for everything. I never don’t respond.
Have you been able to connect with a lot of new and old fans that way?
Yes, I connect with new people daily. Its one of the blessings and curses of becoming a Rock Star.
Do you have plans to play live a lot this summer in support of your album, “The Process”?
Yes, we are planning some big events, festivals and tours. The whole bit. Were hoping to see a lot of faces on the road.
Who are you all listening to these days?
The 1975 has our hearts at the moment.
What artists have continued to inspire you and your music?
Thrice and Circa Survive.
Who would you absolutely love to work with in the future?
Bring Me The Horizon, I See Stars, Paramore, Thrice, Circa Survive and Pierce The Veil to name a few.
At the end of the day, what do you hope your fans take away from your music?
Even though growing up is hard, watching people leave your life can change you. If you let it, those changes can be for the better. Stand up for your friends when they can not stand up for themselves. Believe in yourself even when no one else does. If you have the chance to be kind or mean, we advise through experience that you choose to be kind. Acts of Random Kindness can really help shape the world around you into something much more positive.
What do you hope is the message of your songs?
Positivity Through Rock Music. Carrying on. Living.
Is there anything else that you would like to share with our readers about yourselves and your music?

A cool purging of emotions that will leave you with a great impression of increase. See ya later Space Cowboys (Cowboy Bepop Reference)
