A Killer’s Confession is the new band led by former Mushroomhead vocalist Waylon Reavis. Their debut album, “Unbroken” is a high octane, adrenaline fueled, gut wrenching collection and it is equal parts beauty and tragedy and takes the listener on a journey to the edge of insanity and back.
“Unbroken” was produced by Reavis and the song “A Killer’s Confession” was co-produced with Thom Hazaert, with Engineer/Mixer Richard Easterling (American Head Charge, Doll Skin, Emperors and Elephants) at Richmond, KY’s Third Sky Studio. The album was released on April 28th via EMP Label Group, the label founded by Megadeth bassist David Ellefson.
A Killer’s Confession consists of Waylon Reavis (vocals), Jon Dale (drums), JP Cross (bass), Matt Trumpy (guitar), and Paul Elliott (guitar).
“I am so proud of this project, and being able to come back with an absolutely KILLER record, with KILLER musicians “states Reavis. “Anyone who has been a fan of anything I have done previously, is absolutely going to be floored by AKC.”
On signing to EMP Reavis had this to say. “I am so thankful to Thom and David for believing in me and getting behind this project the way they have. I have been watching everything they’ve done the last year, and I am so proud and excited to be part of the EMP family.”
Reavis was co-vocalist for MUSHROOMHEAD from 2004 to 2015, and appears on the albums Savior Sorrow (2006), Beautiful Stories for Ugly Children (2010), and The Righteous & The Butterfly (2014), as well as other projects including TENAFLY VIPER, which also featured former Chimaira bassist Jim LaMarca.

Thanks for your time! What are some words you would use to describe 2016? What were some of the highlights for the band? What are you all most excited about for 2017?
2016 was just fast. It was like 3 months putting the band together, writing, recording and playing our first show. 2017 has been really exciting so far. The album is out digitally and doing well. Retail stores will have it May12th. We are about to hit the road with Nonpoint. The plan is to be on the road as much as we can be.
How did A Killer’s Confession first form? How did you come up with your band name? What other names were you considering?
AKC started with Matt Trumpy sending a song and it just all came together. The name was originally going to be Unbroken and the song Matt had sent was called A Killers Confession. There was already artist called Unbroken so the idea came to just called the album Unbroken and the band A Killers Confession.
Let’s talk about your debut album “Unbroken” that was recently released? What was it like putting that collection together? What was the process like?
It was a fast process. That’s all we can really say. One day you are doing nothing and the next day you are writing a whole album with deadlines to have it done. Everything just fell into place and came together with a final product we are all really happy with.
What did the inspiration for your already released single “Rebirth” come from? How did you guys go about writing songs for this collection?
It was the third song I received and I knew as soon as I heard it that it was going to be something special. The lyrics came from lesson from my mother and wife. The writing of the album was very simple, the guy wrote the songs and then sent them to me. I would do my thing on it and it was finished.
You have been in the music business for a long time so I’d love to know if what drives you to make music has changed over the years? How do you think rock music has grown in the years that you’ve been making music?
The thing is to keep changing. Keep fresh material. That why we keep saying 10 albums in 10 years as our goal. To keep putting new music and songs out to the fans.
This summer you’ve got a few tour dates scheduled. Where are you looking for to playing at? Have you performed at these venues before?
The dates we have coming up I think there is one or two places we have played as AKC. The only dates we have posted right now are the dates with Nonpoint in May and June.
Who are you all listening to these days? What artists have continued to inspire you and your music? Who would you absolutely love to work with in the future?
Rammstein, Korn, Rob Zombie and Tool.
At the end of the day, what do you hope your fans take away from your music? What do you hope is the message of your songs?
Exactly what the album is called. “Unbroken.” That’s what everyone needs to take from us. Don’t give up on anything. No matter how bad things can get, remain Unbroken and move forward.
Is there anything else that you would like to share with our readers about yourselves and your music?
Just that we can’t wait to meet all of you. The fans are what keeps us here.
