An Interview With Newcomer Rapper, $KINNY On His Bright Career So Far!
Meet $kinny! He’s Saudi-born, but lives in LA. “Cookies and Swisher Sweets” is the first single off his newest album, released on July 15. $kinny was recently signed to Director X’s production company, who does videos for Kanye, Drake, Kendrick, Usher and a ton of other big names.

Thanks for your time! How’s 2016 treating you so far? How’s your summer been going? What were some of the highlights of 2015 for you?
My pleasure, 2016 is treating me wonderfully, summer has been Saudi hot in LA these past couple days so it’s been great. Going on a us/Canada tour with Blackbear was def a highlight for me, oh yah and almost going to jail in El Paso, Texas was def a night to remember! (Laughter) #WeedInMyDraws
Growing up, did you always want to be a musician? Can you recall your earliest musical memory?
Yeah, I picked up an electric guitar when I was 12 years old and just fell in love.. An awesome music memory was when my uncle took me to see Marilyn Manson at OZZFEST. That shit was life changing.
This July, you will be releasing your latest album. Can you talk about the creation of this record? How long did it take to put together? How do you think you have grown on this album? What are some of the stand-out tracks on the collection?
This album was really fun for me to create, I just got super high and made music in my closet like a vampire. I def have grown a lot since ghetto Disneyland, I feel like I am finding myself more and more as an artist, and my visions are getting weirder and scarier so that’s good.. A stand out track on the album is def O Se Baba, which means ” thank you, Father” in Yoruba. I listen to it and it Just makes me happy.
What was the inspiration for your already released songs, “Cookies and Swisher Sweet”?
I wanted to share my everyday dos with my fans, and get more personal. I remember producing the track and it was so dreamy and fly it took me to another place, a wonderful place
What was it like directing your own video for “Eight Dollar$”? How did it feel to get signed to Director X’s production company?
Directing my videos are super fun and stressful at the same time, i don’t have a lot to work with, so when I make something so great out of nothing just makes me feel like batman. I’m very much a visual artists and I love turning my thoughts into art. Signing to Director X is dope, I’m a big fan of his work and it’s wonderful to be recognized by greatness
Who are some of your favorite artists? Who would you still love to work with in the future?
I wanna work with Kanye West and Jay Z. I believe they would appreciate my music
At the end of the day, what do you hope is the message of your music? What do you hope listeners take away from your songs?
I just want to bring people together, music is a healer and the world needs it now more then ever. Stop worrying so much, smoke a blunt and enjoy the trip
