Given these unusual Covid-19 times, what does a typical day look like for you all? How have you adjusted to these times?
Thank you for having us! Well, thankfully we have all been able to continue to work during quarantine!
So, our days tend to look just as they did before Covid-19, where Dustin wakes up at 7 for work and gets home around 5:30 for dinner that Alyssa has made, after she nannies during the day. Kyle still is able to teach guitar to kids, but he is able to do so from home now as well as doing them in person. After he teaches, he either plays video games or works on music. We have actually adjusted amazingly during this time… I mean, Lakemont was created during quarantine because we had so much more time to create music! So, even though Covid-19 sucks, it let us start a band because of it.
What has been the hardest/most challenging part about being quarantined? Is your city starting to open up more now?
The hardest part is that there is no live music! We have gone from playing music ALL the time and seeing bands perform, to reminiscing old concerts in our camera rolls. Thankfully things are starting to open back up… but most people think that us Floridians never really even shut down HA!
How have you been able to use social media during these unprecedented times? Are you finding that you use it even more now to stay connected to fans and other musicians?
Oh absolutely! We were so lucky to have social media during quarantine! Our only way to promote our music was through using social media. We were not able to do live concerts or anything, so our band is only spreading because of social media! We literally built a fan-base before any music came out just by posting cool looking videos and photos.

What has it been like having to reschedule all your shows this year? What shows in 2021 are you are already excited for?
Well… Lakemont started in quarantine so no shows have been planned yet HAHA. We have been lucky enough to gig and perform together for years, and with different people, but as for our band, Lakemont, we have not been able to schedule any shows yet, because we have no clue when things are going to open back up. We are excited for literally any live show! We miss it so much; we will literally see even Sesame Street if it comes down to it. But we are really excited to see artists like Post Malone and Billie Eilish live.
What do you think ultimately makes for a great show for you? What about a favorite show of someone else?
OOOh I love that question! For us, a great show is just us having the most fun ever! We love to interact with each other on stage and just bounce off the walls! You can always count on Kyle and Alyssa jumping around like goofballs… we know Dustin would be too if he weren’t playing drums. But the best part is, we have so much fun when we are being creative; trying new melodies and rhythms or having really cool creative pieces.
One of our favorite shows was John Mayer; which was one of Dustin and Alyssa’s first concerts they saw together before they got married.
Can you explain how this group first formed? Was it difficult to come up with a name that you could all agree on? What other names were you considering?
HA! We know that to some, our name is quite strange, but it is actually the street that Dustin and Alyssa live on; aka where we first created our music together. We did not have a hard time coming up with a name actually! Dustin pitched “Lakemont” and we all instantly loved it.
Tell me about the unconventional production methods and sound design that this band uses?
A lot of the sounds that we use are actually just processed voice memos that we have on our phones. We really don’t know what we are doing, and we are always trying to do something new, so we are always looking for new ways to incorporate daily sounds/environmental textures. One time Kyle used an empty water bottle to add more crunch to the snare drum.
Let’s talk about your just released single “Better Than Before.” What was the inspiration for this track? How does it compare to anything else you have put out before?
When do you hope to put out more new music and a full album of new songs?
The inspiration was what all great songs are inspired by… sucky breakups. Our lead singer, Alyssa, had a bad breakup years ago and she was reflecting on how she used to find her identity in the guys she dated, to where she lost who she was in a way, which held her back of her full potential. This song is inspired by that. It is a love story about a toxic relationship where even though these 2 people love each other, they know that this relationship is holding them back from being their best selves. Only when they break up will they become Better Than Before. We think that this song is basically a continuation of our first single “J O K E,” which discusses the breakup more in detail, but “Better Than Before” talks about the realization that the breakup was for the best. We hope to put out one more single this year and then an E.P in 2021!
How do you think future music is going to be influenced by this incredible and absolutely necessary Black Lives Matter movement that the US has been going through? How exactly is it inspiring you and your music?
It is crazy to think that in 2020 we even have to have a conversation or even a moment like BLM. Black Culture has sculpted music in a way that sets american artists apart from the rest of the world. We cannot just pick and choose the things we “accept” or “like” about people, but we need to love people for who they are and where they came from. Our goal is to write about topics that others can relate to and help be a voice for others who don’t know what to say or how to say it… We want to write about topics that help others feel less alone. At the end of the day we are all human and have gone through a lot of the same issues and situations.

If you could get into the studio with any artist today and collaborate on a new song for you, who would it be and why?
POST MALONE! We love us some Posty. We love all of his songs and think that his vibe would fit our vibe so well! We love how he lives beyond one genre. Kyle and Post Malone would vibe well…they are both amazing guitar players and take things super light hearted.
What would your dream music video look like right now?
Something so creative and over the top. We love the pop VHS feel we have going on now. We have a couple great ideas for some film/music video ideas but we are lacking in the cash department right now. Everything we have done this far has been DIY. We have no idea what we are doing so we are glad that even 1 person is listening to our music and talking about the band.
Would you like to share anything else about yourself or your music with our readers?
We are just a group of childhood best friends who love being creative and making music. We are actually all moving to Nashville together to further our dream, so keep your eyes open for more things coming from Lakemont.
