Known for introducing uber-talented artists to the music industry, including his own offspring (BEYONCE!), Mathew Knowles prepares to deliver on that order.
The music mogul found phenomenal success grooming and managing the mega group Destiny’s Child. He is now handing out mics to Blushhh Music, a harmonically blended hip-hop and R&B trio (est. 2013) and they are using them to mix fiery rhymes and hooks reminiscent of the 90’s hip-hop era— but with a trendy twist. Their debut album is filled with upbeat and mid-tempo tracks; ones that reveal the sharp versatility of blending two passionate rappers with a sultry, powerhouse vocalist.
Comprised of Sunni, Tali and Bunni Ray, together they present something indeed fresh, yet reminiscent of favorites like TLC, Destiny’s Child and Salt-N-Pepa.
Sunni, a Woodland Hills, California native moved to Houston at age 6 and quickly found a passion in writing rhymes and poetry, while heavily influenced by artists like Mc Lyte, Lauryn Hill, and Tupac. Tali, a Houston native, incorporates her Colombian roots throughout her lyrics and style while complementing the rap duo with her vocal prowess. The newest member is Bunni Ray, another Houston native, who synchronizes her fast rhymes with a high pitched, sassy swagger.
Their new single, “Old School Back” from their debut album, “Old School Back Past, Present, and Future” is currently available in the digital marketplace.

Thanks for your time! How’s 2016 treating the band so far? How’s your summer been going? What were some of the highlights of 2015 for the band
Hello, thank you for speaking with us! This year is full of great experiences and accomplishments together. We were in Artist Development in 2015 and now we have released our first single “Old School Back” on June 9th of 2016 which made the top 100 in one day!
Can you talk about how this group was first formed? Why do you think you work so well together? How did you come up with your name?
I, Sunni whom is the founder of the group in 2009 with another rapper wanted to have a powerful singer in the group. I found Tali on Facebook and she jumped right in with the approval of her family. Tali then had creative control over the name aspect and we all loved the meaning, Beauty Lives Under Stoned Hearts.
The three H’s symbolized each heart in the group! She actually had dropped her purse and the blush pallet broke on a dollar and that’s how Blushhh came into play. A few years later we were signed to Mr Knowles. In our fist year of artist development we had a group member change and Tali and I hand picked Bunni Ray on Instagram. That’s then when the energy was taken to another level! We believe that is the glue to why we work well with each other. Because we were not made or put together by anyone! We had full control over who we wanted our sisters to be!
What does it mean to you all to be led by Beyonce’s father, Matthew Knowles? Is there any pressure with that?
It’s unbelievable sometimes! We all group up listening and following their journey. So to be able to do it our way kind of down the same path is a blessing. We were able to go through the same artist development boot camp as Destiny’s Child. If it was not for them we wouldn’t have a great path of longevity to follow.
We aim to get to their level of success but as a hip hop trip with two rappers and one singer. Something that’s never been done before. We aim to make our mark in the industry as they did. They set a high bar as it should be. We believe you must study the greats to be great!
I understand that Blushhh formed in 2013, so how have you grown as a group since then?
Actually the group formed in 2009. We were much younger then. But in 2013 we did believe we were ready, but we were not! Our puzzle wasn’t complete. It took the real life of an entertainer to hit all of us for us to realize things needed to change. We have each grown as a person, a artist, a sisterhood, business wise, image and health wise, and most of all as Blushhh Music!
I’ve read that your music is reminiscent of bands like TLC, Destiny’s Child and Salt-N-Pepa. Can you elaborate on that?
Yes, that’s what everyone feels we remind them of. Sunni brings the Salt-N-Pepa, Bunni brings the left eye from TLC, and Tali brings Destiny’s Child. We are very humble and grateful to remind people of such powerful women in the music industry!
“Those were the good ole days” is what we always hear, so we are glad to make people feel familiar with our sound. But we know we will make our mark as Blushhh Music overtime.
What was the inspiration for your newest single, “Old School Back”?
The inspiration of the song came about some years back. So many people felt that we were so young but reminded them of the old school hip hop from the 80s and 90s. Which was crazy because our musical influences were just that! So we decided lets write about it and pay homage to the hip hop kings and queens that paved the way for us! We wanted people to feel good and be reminded of those good memories from back in the day with “Old School Back”!
When do you hope to release your debut full-length album, “Old School Back Past, Present, and Future”?
We love everything that we have recorded, so we are in the process of planning and making sure it’s done correctly. So when the time is right, the world will Blushhh!
Who are some of your favorite artists? Who would you guys love to work with in the future?
We have so many! (Laughter) But we must say for Sunni- Mc Lyte, Queen Latifah, Lauryn Hill, and TuPac. For Tali- All of the Jacksons, Destiny’s Child, Jessi J and Sade. And for Bunni- Left Eye, Lil Kim, Da Brat and Twista. As a group we love Bone Thugz N Harmony, Destiny’s Child, And TLC.
At the end of the day, what do you hope is the message of your music? What do you hope listeners take away from your songs?
We love this question! We want people to be happy and to enjoy Blushhhing… Of course we stand for women empowerment. But more so to be a positive influence on our generation and the generations to come! We want everyone to have a great time and reminisce on the great times! That music that the entire human race can celebrate.
