Alternative-Pop Band MAYBERRY Chat About Their Forthcoming EP, “Beautiful Mess”, Biggest Inspirations and More!
Alternative pop-rock band Mayberry will be releasing their forthcoming EP, “Beautiful Mess“ on 7/22/16.
The EP’s leading single is called “Wildfire” and the song is equal parts catchy and sexy. Inspired by 50 Shades of Grey, but with an anthemic-pop style, it’s a fun, upbeat track for any summer playlist.
Here is what Mayberry front-man Esteban Rodriguez had to say about “Wildfire“:
“Wildfire is a song I’ve been eager to release for a while. A song about desire and an intense physical attraction that’s so good & addicting, you’ll go through any pain & torture to feel it again. It’s a very fun & upbeat jam that’s perfect for a drive with the music full blast” – Esteban Rodriguez
Hailing from small-town Edinburgh, TX, Mayberry is an alternative pop/rock band consisting of members Esteban Rodriguez (Vocals), Hector Rodriguez (Bass), Brayden Dillard (Drums), and Andrew Vela (Guitar). Mayberry radiates with infectious pop hooks and powerful vocals ready for Top-40 radio. After releasing their debut EP All I Need(2012), produced by Geoff Rockwell (Artist vs. Poet, Forever the Sickest Kids), the band made waves with their 3-song EP Just A Dream(2014), which was produced and co-written by John Keefe and Morgan Dorr of Boys Like Girls. Noting their veteran expertise and sensibility for polished pop melodies, Mayberry continued to work alongside the duo, releasing a follow-up single in 2015 “Please Please.” Keefe and Dorr also produced Mayberry’s forthcoming EP, Beautiful Mess[out 7/22/16]. Mayberry has shared the stage with powerhouse acts such as Plain White T’s, Fifth Harmony, Fall Out Boy, Rixton, and more. After landing a publishing deal with Position Music in LA, their single “Heartbeat” made its television debut in a commercial for NBC’s Running Wild With Bear Grylls.
Mayberry feels like a band poised for mainstream success, with over 45,000 avid Twitter followers and fans all over the globe making this band one to watch.

Thanks for your time! How’s 2016 treating the band so far? How’s your summer been going? What were some of the highlights of 2015 for you?
ALL ACCESS! Esteban here, Thank you so much for the questions. 2016 is going great so far. We are currently gearing up to release our EP Beautiful Mess July 22! 2015 was amazing, Headlined festivals, met new fans, traveled the country, recorded in Boston and LA and wrote a handful of tunes that’ll be out July 22!
Can you talk about Mayberry first formed? Why do you think you all get along so well together?
Sure. Mayberry started out as a solo project I had put together as a hobby in 2012. Music had always been my passion so when I finally decided to take Mayberry to the next level, I recruited some of my best friends Brayden & Andrew (Drums,Guitar). We played shows, started growing locally and once I felt my younger brother Hector was ready (bass) we recruited him in!
How do you think being from a small town in Texas has influenced you as a musician?
It’s played a huge role. It kind of makes us feel like underdogs. We’re not from a big Texas city like Austin or Houston, so it motivates me to get our city, Edinburg, TX name out there.
Next month, you will release your latest EP, “Beautiful Mess.” How do you think your sound has grown on this collection?
I feel over the years, I’ve been able to develop and evolve as a songwriter and musician. With this project I put decided to just write and record whatever came to mind. I put no restrictions or boundaries on these tracks style and genre wise. I didn’t strive for a specific sound on this EP so it was fun to see what we came up with, and I’m pleased what came out of it.
What was the inspiration for the music on “Beautiful Mess”? In particular, how did your lead single, “Wildfire” come together? What was it like working with the John Keefe and Morgan Dorr of Boys Like Girls on the EP?
Wildfire was literally written in a couple of hours. Since we already had built a great working relationship with John & Morgan, when we landed in boston the second time around we met up, I had concept and we literally wrote it in a few hours and recorded it the following morning. I had the whole 50 shades of gray concept and wanted to roll with it, and I’m glad I did, I love how wildfire came out.
Who are some of your favorite artists? What artists continue to inspire you? Who would you love to work with in the future?
As of right now, Ryan Tedder is a huge inspiration. What he does with One Republic is incredible and the fact that he writes for artists like Beyonce, Adele and others blows my mind. It’s something I strive for. I’d love to co write with him.
At the end of the day, what do you hope is the message of your music? What do you hope listeners take away from your songs?
I love when I listen to a song and I can feel the passion and meaning behind it. Most generic songs on the radio are already written for them and they just have an artist come in and sing over it.. we’re not like that. I want our listeners to be able to feel the emotion and relate to the lyrics. There’s no better feeling than having one of your songs inspire somebody.
