On Tuesday September 25th, the British rock band, Nothing But Thieves entertained a mighty crowd at LA’s Fonda Theatre.
Nothing But Thieves was formed in 2012 in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. The group is made up of lead singer Conor Mason, guitarist Joe Langridge-Brown, guitarist and keyboardist Dominic Craik, bassist Philip Blake and drummer James Price.
Signed to RCA Records, they have released two full-length albums; a self-titled one in 2015 and “Broken Machine” in 2017. On October 19th, they will be putting out an EP called “What Did You Think When You Made Me This Way.”
Right away their positive energy flowed through the sold-out loud and rowdy crowd. Mason repeatedly told everyone how happy they were to be back performing in LA.
“It’s great to be here! We have played here a lot of times and we love it. Thanks for being here tonight! Now let’s have a great night!”
While Mason’s lighthearted and casual nature on stage was clear and charming, what was even more impressive was what an incredible voice he has. Even during the loudest songs where the drums and the guitars were at their full force, his vocal range and tone were undeniable. At times he even sounded operatic. Mason showed incredible control of his voice.
Nothing But Thieves performed songs off both their albums and even a few brand new tracks. Despite not even being out a month, when they played their new pounding track “Forever & Ever More,” the crowd went wild and knew every word. In fact, the crowd seemed to know the words to every song. So in between all the wild dancing, this writer heard all the lyrics being sung around her. They also played “Wake Up Call,” “Broken Machine,” “Number 13,” “Particles,” “Trip Switch,” “Amsterdam” and more.
