Last night, (April 3) LA’s Neuehaus Hollywood hosted a special event celebrating the announcement of this summer’s “Revolution 3 Tour.” The 3 celebrated bands that make up the line up of this big tour are The Cult, BUSH and Stone Temple Pilots. These alternative rockers will come together for a 20-date summer tour of North American amphitheaters beginning on July 18th. (Full tour dates below)
For this unique show last night, each group performed 3 of their biggest hits to a packed and boisterous crowd. The Cult ended their set with “She Sells Sanctuary.” BUSH delighted concerned-goers with “Machinehead” and “Comedown” and STP belted out their hits “Secret Garden,” “Vaseline” and “Sex Type Thing.”
This small sampling of what to expect from the real shows this summer gave a quick taste to everyone. Hosted by the legendary MTV music personality Matt Pinfield, guests also learned that during the “Revolution 3 Tour,” each group will be performing full sets in a different order each night of the tour on the “revolving headline run.”
“We are looking forward to see everybody in the summer. This is a great tour for rock fans,” Bush’s Gavin Rossdale said in a statement, while Stone Temple Pilots’ Robert Deleo added, “We are thrilled to join our friends this summer to celebrate our music with all of you.”
The Cult’s Ian Astbury added of the Revolution 3 Tour, “We look forward to celebrating glorious summer nights of responsible (and irresponsible) hedonism with all of you.” (From Rolling Stone.com)
Formed in 1983, the English band, The Cult is currently made up of members Ian Astbury (vocals, guitar, percussion), Billy Duffy (lead guitar), Damon Fox (keyboards, vocals), Grant Fitzpatrick (bass guitar, vocals) and John Tempesta (drums, percussion). They first broke into the mainstream with their debut album “”Dreamtime” which contained the singles “Love Removal Machine” and “Fire Woman.” From there, they went on to release “Love” (1985), “Electric” (1987), “Sonic Temple” (1989), “Ceremony (1991), “The Cult” (1994), “Beyond Good and Evil” (2001), “Born Into This” (2007), “Choice of Weapon” (2012) and “Hidden City” (2016).
Bush are an English band formed in London in 1992. Their current lineup consists of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Gavin Rossdale, drummer Robin Goodridge, lead guitarist Chris Traynor, and bassist Corey Britz. In 1994, Bush found immediate success with the release of their debut album, “Sixteen Stone,” which is certified 6× multi-platinum. They went on to become one of the most commercially successful rock bands of the 1990s, selling over 10 million records in the U.S. In total, they have so far released 6 other albums, including “Razorblade Suitcase” (1996), “The Science of Things” (1999), “Golden State” (2001), “The Sea of Memories” (2011), “Man on the Run” (2014) and “Black and White Rainbows” (2017).
As the only American band on this tour, Stone Temple Pilots (often abbreviated as STP) was formed in 1989 in San Diego, California. The group originally consisted of Scott Weiland (lead vocals), brothers Dean DeLeo (guitar) and Robert DeLeo (bass, backing vocals), and Eric Kretz (drums). Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington took over for Weiland in 2013 and then was ultimately replaced by Jeff Gutt after he passed away in 2017. The band’s debut album, “Core” (1992), was a commercial success, and they went on to become one of the most commercially successful bands of the 1990s, selling more than 13 million albums in the U.S and 35 million worldwide. STP released four more studio albums: “Purple” (1994), “Tiny Music… Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop” (1996), “No. 4” (1999) and “Shangri-La Dee Da” (2001), before separating in 2002, after which the band members worked on various projects (most notably Velvet Revolver and Army of Anyone). The band eventually reconvened in 2008 for a reunion tour and released a new self-titled album in 2010. STP recently put out their seventh studio album, also titled “Stone Temple Pilots,” on March 16th via Atlantic Records.
Tickets can be purchased for this tour starting this FRIDAY, April 6th at Live Nation.
