A Paul McCartney and The Wings Tribute Band Graces The Whiskey A Go-Go Tribute Concert Series!
“The World’s Greatest Tribute Bands” concert series is currently over half way finished with its 3rd season on AXS TV. Hosted by the music maven Katie Daryl, this one-hour series features bands performing tributes to some of music’s most iconic acts live from the Sunset Strip venue, Whiskey A Go-Go. In total, there are 15 bands playing this season including tributes to Stevie Nicks, Motley Crue, Bruce Springsteen, and the Beastie Boys. On Monday, March 10th, I enjoyed the ultimate Paul McCartney and The Wings tribute band called the Wings Band.
One of the great songwriters of the 20th century, Paul McCartney has racked up a string of hits in his post-Beatles career, both as a solo act and with his band, Wings. From rock classics like “Jet” to beautiful ballads like “Maybe I’m Amazed,” this Wings tribute band definitely were able to recreate the McCartney concert experience. Complete with a four-piece horn section to capture the bombastic Wings sound, there was no mistaking that these guys have done their homework.
Covering material from “Venus and Mars” and “Band on the Run” to “Wings Over America”, the Wings Band takes the listener on a musical and visual flight through the Paul McCartney and Wings galaxy. Led by Ardy Sarraf as the man himself, his attention to detail, authenticity, vocal and musical precision is immediately apparent. He was born right handed and wanting to emulate the Sir McCartney, Sarraf taught himself to play left handed bass and acoustic guitar.
“We hope we do justice to one of the greatest singer, songwriters of all time. It’s our pleasure and honor to bring their music live to our audience.”
I think they definitely did exactly that!
