A Kinder, Gentler, American Idol?

As previously reported, last season of American Idol was full of drama between former judges Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, and by association, Randy Jackson.  Due to friction amongst the trio, the drama often over shadowed the contestants, and became tabloid fodder for gossip based on celebrity bickering. Coincidence or not, the drama filled Season 11 also marked the first time that NBC’s The Voice out did Idol in the ratings. Perhaps that is why Fox recently released an extended clip that shows a kinder gentler Idol judge panel for season 12.

In the clip last year’s only remaining judge Keith Urban is joined by returning judge Jennifer Lopez, and newcomer Harry Connick Jr., and all 3 are clearly seen being very friendly and supportive to contestants. Could there be a stylistic change at work because of The Voice’s success with their seemingly kinder blind audition process? Click here to check out the video and see what you think.
