If you know me at all, you’ll know that I have an insane love/respect/admiration/and much more for the one and only Beyoncé Knowles (check out my review of her fantastic concert last Summer here) so I was really excited when I learned of a Beyoncé Tribute show happening.
I quickly adjusted my plans and made my way over to the Silver Lake venue, The Satellite on Tuesday, May 20th.
This Tribute to Beyoncé featured a number of local bands: Banta, Alina Cutrono, Taylor Dexter, Winter, Hobart W Fink, J Dende, Stonefeather, plus many more special guests.
I was mostly impressed with how each performer changed the song and really made it their own. It was neat to see Queen Bey’s songs so drastically transformed for the evening.
Covering music all the way from her first album, Dangerously In Love to her latest release, Beyoncé . While the bootylicious singer’s chops were hard to match, I still very much appreciated each of the groups.
Ian from the band, Stonefeather started the show off with his lovely acoustic rendition of “Halo”. The punk/alternative band, Winter, dabbled with Beyoncé ‘s “If I Were A Boy” and a few other tunes. J. Dende and Deja played an electronic “Losing You”, which is a Solange and Beyonce song, then “XO” and “Deja Vu”. Next, Taylor Dexter performed an awesome version of “Kitty Kat”. Alina Cutrono and her band’s short set consisted of very cool versions of “Irreplaceable” and “Blow”.
Until I get to see the one and only Mrs. Carter again (hopefully this Summer), this Beyoncé Tribute certainly filled the void.
